I have not been sharing many garden updates because a more typical #Melbourne summer has arrived and we are battling weeks of no rain and some days over 35 degrees (nowhere near as bad as #Perth though).
I have been very busy with family and community projects but fortunately my husband has stepped in to water plants. Even so, as you can see in this photo of our #StreetGarden, the plants have shrunk and are really holding on quite grimly.
At Parliament House in #Perth Western Australia for a rally of civil society against proposed changes to the Environment Protection Act, making it easier for businesses to destroy our precious land.
Perth is having a really bad summer. Yesterday it was over 40 degrees and around 40,000 people were told to stay indoors and turn their air conditioners off because of a fire emitting sulphur dioxide fumes. In the south of Perth a bushfire came up to people's back fences but fortunately property damage seems to have been prevented. #Perth
Affecting nearly every service - #Trains still running were terminated early at 9pm. Tomorrow morning will consist of assessing the damage done to tracks to see what routes can be reopened.
#Perth - #Inverness route is unlikely to run at all tomorrow with #Scotrail announcing that all replacement options will be extremely limited - (when is it no?)
New at my Patreon... Walking through Fremantle, I admired a statue of the late Bon Scott of the rock band AC/DC. But where exactly was his Highway to Hell?
The Fergusson Gallery, housed in Perth's old waterworks building. It displays the world's largest collection of artwork by the renowned Scottish artist, John Duncan Fergusson, in a building that is in many ways itself a work of art. Derelict platform at Claremont Station on the Fremantle line in Perth. All trains now leave from the island platform in the middle. The new airport line starts here too, so I've just transferred from a Freo train to wait for an airport train.
I know this station well, as I used it when I was at boarding school nearby in the 1970s-80s.
A Perth set of windows for #FensterFreitag - within the somewhat bizarre mock-Tudor shopping arcade, London Court. The gent in the middle is Raleigh, I believe.
Will be going to various museums, Rottnest Island/wadjemup and the Busso pier underwater experience, plus some beaches and breweries. No hiking/really long walks. Open to other tips!
New at my Patreon... I spent two days in the middle of nowhere, rolling across the Nullarbor Plain aboard the Indian Pacific train. Here's what it was like:
Huntingtower Castle, west of Perth, is a beautifully atmospheric time capsule. It was originally two separate tower houses built three metres apart that were joined together in the 1600s to form one. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/perth/huntingtower/index.html
