These name tags at State of the Map US are beautifully designed, but the name needs to be bigger! I have to get way too close to people to read their name.
4/ Next speaker was Lars Lingner @gislars a long-time organizer of the OpenStreetMap Berlin community. Lars discussed how the OpenStreetMap community operates, some of the challenges it faces, and how people can get involved.
Ross Thorn will be talking about mapping highway shields using OpenStreetMap data, and Alan McConchie (@alan) will give an overview of our recent revamp of our basemap styles with @stadiamaps
Silly question, but is there a https://LearnXInYMinutes.com/ -a-like for the Overpass API query languages? The variants used by Overpass Turbo, specifically?
#OpenStreetMap people I need you: I want to offer users the option to search for objects in a radius. the objects have a german postal code and users should put in a postal code as well. Is there any data source that will allow me to translate postal codes into coordinates? I can only find the boundary of postal_code but is there also something like the center? Or a way to calculate that?
Are there any good software/websites that let you add notes to a map?
I'd like to write down notes of places in China where friends live or I have visited, to help me learn the geography.
Tomorrow night! #OpenStreetMap#meetup up in the Monkey Puzzle pub in Paddington from 7pm. Just a social pub gathering. No need to sign-up, although you can mark yourself as attending on osmcal if you like: https://osmcal.org/event/2885/
To improve routes used by cycling apps thst leverage #OpenStreetMap, check out the free open source app #StreetComplete so you can easily mark bike lanes, bike racks, and surface types.
In addition, you can capture images of your local bike paths with the Mapillary app, save them locally, and then upload them to panoramax.openstreetmap.fr which is the only completely open source street level imagery tool.
I'm looking for a friendly solution to map location (points, areas) and some additional data of trees / plants on our woodland.
Ideally it is something with a browser interface where complicated edits are done on a PC, and field data gathering is done on mobile. Ideally there's a way to include photos (no deal breaker).
20yrs ago I'd use a semi-licensed ArcGIS product. These days I am lost.
Grateful for tips! Is there for example a way to use the #OSM editor?
Fun Overpass-Turbo query for #OpenStreetMap: a map of all the K2 and K6 series telephone boxes in London.
Just in case you want to take a red phone box tourist photo and the Tube is screwed or there's a marathon or whatever on and the usual toursity ones in Parliament Square/Covent Garden aren't accessible.
You can also move the map location and re-run the query to find them anywhere else (including the ones outside the UK).
This coming Tuesday, join us in the Monkey Puzzle pub, Paddington, from 7pm. A casual social #meetup for #OpenStreetMap users/contributors.
Also check out the @lrug tech presentation event the following week (Sign up now open for that one) https://wiki.osm.org/London#Upcoming_Events
