This reminds us that #policing - in #SettlerColonial societies like Canada - has always been a central force for dispossession, displacement & containment.
#Ontario contingent was headed by #YorkRegionalPolice Chief Armand LaBarge, #OPP Commissioner Gwen Boniface, Emergency Management Commissioner Julian Fantino & representatives of #OntarioPoliceCollege. While in #Israel, they attended police field units, #Israeli border police, #AntiTerrorist units & a rehab centre for injured police officers.
The Federal Court of Canada has declared that the invocation of the Emegrencies Act to deal with the 2022 Freedom Convoy was unconstitutional. Full decision: https://t.co/jYFPRdjMEJ
@justinling@Greengordon Municipal and provincial resources said, not our problem! The #CriminallyCorruptGovernment was too busy making backroom deals for the greenbelt, municipal resources were too busy delivering hot water for the hot tubs. And the #OPP was busy schmoozing with the vulgar irresponsible protesters who could have cared less about the well-being of the people in Ottawa, trying to live through the chaos, stench and noise.
Former Minister of Health, Christine Elliot, is now a lobbyist for Clearpoint, a private surgery company that's set to benefit off the Ford Conservative government's privatization of #Ontario healthcare.
Clearpoint, a large chain of private surgical clinics was created in 2019 (when Elliott was Minister of Health, coincidently) with Kensington Capital Investments listed as the owner.
The Toronto surgical unit, (oddly named Don Mills) is located on Dixon Rd in #Etobicoke.
@gemelliz The unfettered rot in the #FordGovernment is eating away at all of us. Residents are suffering and there’s no end in sight. The #OPP is compromised and can we trust the #RCMP to investigate #FordGovernmentCorruption in a timely fashion before our healthcare has been destroyed & replaced by doctors giving optimum points to help defray medical costs? #CdnPM We cannot continue like this. The province is not fulfilling its responsibilities. It is in criminal #DerelictionOfDuty
@AnnieBuddy Fine. It was an asinine vulgar ignorant mistake. My heart bleeds for the #OPP officers but fire their a**. If their judgement is so impaired, how can they possibly be trusted with policing decisions which require sensitivity, rational thought and honour. That post displays the very opposite of those qualities.
The #OPP passed the investigation of Doug Ford's #greenbelt scandal to the #RCMP, to avoid potential conflict of interest. Sounds like a good idea, but why now, not when the investigation began? Raises more questions than it answers.
The Ontario Provincial Police say that a software update prevented the police force from sending out an Amber Alert for an abducted baby to all cellphones in the province.
Fortunately the baby was found safe & the alert was eventually cancelled.
Current OPP commish Carrique says he has no relationship at all with Premier Ford or the Ford family. However, he does have a 20 year "professional relationship" with Ont. Deputy Solicitor General, Mario Di Tommaso as both sat on the same police boards.
Tommaso, a former #Toronto cop, is the unelected bureaucrat behind OPP personnel decisions. He was chosen by #DougFord & is Ron Taverner's old boss. Tommaso & Solicitor General Sylvia Jones directed the #OPP response during the #Ottawa convoy.
" I don't know which is worse. The fact that the RCMP is now investigating the greenbelt. Or the fact that the #OPP couldn't because #DougFord has his hooks into them so much it would be a conflict of interest."
