For an idea of what it's like with brainfog.

My talks page on my website, needed one final thing to finish my migration from hugo to just straight flat html. Move the pdf folder to the new site.

Today is a good day and it literally took me 2 minutes to find the folder, upload them to the new location. Not a hard job at all.

Its been over a year since that job needed to be done.

@pixelate As far as I know I only caught it once, March 2020. Then months later totally poleaxed.

Once is enough.

But this is why I'm very vocal about @phpledge and on occasion ask conferences and other events to consider a public health policy.

I've no wish for anyone else to go through this. It isn't inevitable, I know some folks have managed to stay . I want them to be able to stay that way, and socialise safely.

For peeps in the US. I had a link up for a company in Canada, but they don't ship to the states.

I am ordering today to give it a try. I do have a few work days where I have to wear a mask for extended periods, so staying hydrated has been a challenge (my job is physical).

I have seen posts from other Mastodonians saying they have used these on plane flights and avoided catching any and all bugs. Cool!

New-to-me instance, so I suppose I should do an again -- and pin it.

Late-realized and more or less lifelong Kansan living once more in the blue bubble of . In one year I will have lived in my current house as long as I lived anywhere else in my entire life. That is kind of scary to me.

I have no idea what I said as an intro when I joined Mastodon in late 2022. I had just gotten slapped by the book of face because I said I wanted to drive to Texas to punch a Nazi. That'll tell you a lot about who I actually am.

I'm still because masking is punk as fuck, as is caring about other people in your community -- not just the shiny loud ones who are always talking and saying everything is fine.

It's not.

I believe it's going to be some version of OK, but it's going to be really different, and it might be pretty difficult, and a lot of people are going to be really uncomfortable -- but you probably already know that.

I love reading, learning, sleeping, foraging, unlearning, listening, learning to repair things, and being quiet for long stretches. I grow as much food and medicine as I can on my own small property. I try to be a good steward and give back to the land and the animals.

I am a chicken tender, and they are the joy of my existence. Those goofy birds helped me get through some really rough years recently. When you've got creatures that you have to get up and tend to many times a day, there's a reason to keep your feet on the ground on this earth for a while.

I have two dogs, three cats, and never enough time to do all the learning and reading or even work that I want to do.

I've been in my profession of bodywork for over 30 years and still love it. I'm only able to work part time due to my AuDHD and chronic physical conditions, so my work fits my needs very well.

I'm redheaded, left-handed, short, fat, and existentially angry most of the time, but I am also one of those people that will usually shut up after complaining and try to find a solution.

I'm a , meditation teacher, certified teacher, certified listener , am becoming a certified , and I like to question everything, especially authority. I have too many and only two hands, and never enough time for all the poems that want to be scribbled down or typed out.

I'm a big fan of classic sci-fi, new sci-fi, speculative fiction, memoirs, and packed with useful information. I'm on the hunt for an entire set of encyclopedia, as I'm increasing my useful paper book collection. My TV choices tend toward , British comedy, and documentaries about weird cults/religions.

I'm very literal, and my sense of humor is very dry. I cut my teeth on 1970s , to give you and idea of what I mean.

I am a weird combination of mostly vegan/vegetarian, but I do eat some chicken -- and the eggs my hens produce. So figure that one out if you can. (I can't!)

I love to cuss but I am very, very bad at it.

Some things I love about Mastodon: My Au friends here, all your cat and dog and rat and plant posts, watching monster movies on Sunday nights, my Novid and Covid-cautious friends, my soccer friends, and the character limit on this new-to-me instance. Woot!

Any questions? Thanks for reading.

Got my second cold of the year after a good six years without one, though I'm still on a solid record. Testing regularly and glad it's not that this time either. No fever, just unpleasant sinuses all week. Hopefully done soon.

Just bad luck I guess, as I mask on all shopping trips, and we patronize only nearly-empty restaurants at off-peak times. Low risk isn't zero risk though, so that must be the culprit.

Have been staying home until it's done.

Interesting mask policy. It’s almost as if they don’t think is airborne. In the ER RN for a family member. Seeing no masks, chin masks, and baggy blues for the most part, I guess they don’t think it can be passed to folks waiting in ER…. https://www.johnmuirhealth.com/patients-and-visitors/mask-policy.html#:~:text=The%20public%20health%20officers%20in,2023%20through%20April%2030%2C%202024.

Pretty sure my status is about to end. Elderly high risk parents have not been masking for a long time. I have air purifiers going round the clock since Delta. At least they are vaccinated. Dad has Covid, ER would not test mom b/c not symptomatic. So I did home test and negative (for now) I don’t know how the ER tests. But CT scan was performed and blood was drawn as he felt weak and fell this morning. On blood thinners so protocol is ER. He cant take pax, so molnupiravir.

hey @novid @novid what are y'all doing with your school-aged children, how can i effectively find schools with upgraded ventilation, what's keeping you safe at home? I'm immunocompromised and in progress emigrating to NL with kiddo's first school attendance in the fall. but my partner doesn't have kids and neither does anyone in my social network over there... i can run hepa filters and/or Corsi Rosenthal boxes but it feels like there are holes with just that, and masking at home is an option but uncomfy, are there ways to be safe without that? #NoVid #COVIDSafety

I watched a funny medieval parody show yesterday. There was one scene where they had intervention for the village drunk BECAUSE he had quit drinking. Everyone was encouraging him to take it up again because he wasn't fun anymore.

It was so hilariously absurd.

Nobody would EVER be concerned over someone because they've adopted extremely healthy, adaptive habits that improve their lives and significantly reduce their risk of long term illness.

It's just so funny because it's so incredibly unrealistic and absurd.

SOOO absurd.

I just can't get over how funny it was because of the absurdity.

So my kid tested positive for yesterday. The wife and I are testing negative so far, but I’m stressed out. My back and shoulders hurt from constantly hunching over, and I can’t focus on work—it may be a lost workday for me.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we have managed thus far only to fail in 2024. But I guess it’s inevitable when a dozen rowdy kids get together for D&D every week. I’m worried about for my kid, and the fact that both my wife and I have health issues that would be made infinitely worse by COVID.

So yeah, I’m fucking stressed out.

At this point, I know maybe 6 or 7 people (8 if you include me) irl, that haven't been infected with .

Every time I tell people I've never gotten , they seem shocked.

All the people I know who are do at least 2 of the following.

  • Not spending time indoors unmasked around others that aren't in their "bubble." If they do see people outside their bubble, they try to do stuff outside. If it has to be indoors, everyone must when inside

  • Don't spend a lot of time in public places indoors - especially when there are crowds.

  • Having common shared agreements about with the people they do see unmasked (usually about 3 people total - sometimes less - and it's pretty much always the people they live with).

  • in public using high-quality and well fitted masks (N95/KF94/KN95) - everyone I know who has remained Covid free is doing this.

I've watched basically every single person I know catch Covid, some of them multiple times, and it gets harder for me to comprehend how myself and others are screaming from the rooftops about , yet they're still not .

It's honestly just exhausting at this point because not only can the social isolation get you down sometimes, but I'm also just tired of seeing my friends get sick.
