I took a pre-dawn drive through rural Will County (south of Chicago) this morning. Lots of great old barns and so many stars. After desperately seeking rural illumination, when the sun finally rose, it felt like an embarrassment of riches, in terms of light and color.

Same scene, but here we're looking at the barns that were on the far side of the last scene. On top right, a tree breaks into frame. On top left, we see the rays of light thrust into this scene from the street light just off camera. The grass is a vibrant shade of green, and the wooden barns show a lot of contrast with very dark darks and moderately well-exposed highlights.
On our left, a gravel country rode extends to the horizon. Next to it is a diamond-shaped street sign announcing "ROAD WORK AHEAD". In the ditch, a thin trail of water tags along the road. The night sky just above the horizon is ligh-polluted, but 10-20 degrees above, the sky is dark enough for lots of stars to shine. I'm horrible at constellations, but I think I see the three stars of orion's belt on the bottom right of the frame.
A different barn, viewed head on. This looks like very weathered wood that is now a dark gray. A light on the front of the barn is overexposed and just a gig white smudge in this image. To the left of the barn, we see some metal fencing. To the right, some wood fencing. In front, an empty but well-mowed yard is mostly in the shadows, except right next to the barn, where its exterior light illuminates the grass.
