Met behulp van een goede VPN kan je sommige ook vinden op de BBCiPlayer of op andere streamingwebsites.

Ik zal er ook af en toe ook wat tips tussen steken.

Let's play "The best European Series"!

I have drawn these brackets with the best 16 European series produced by Netflix (according to my own fallible, subjective opinion).

Many other European series are covered in the full article: https://europeanperspective.substack.com/p/following-the-trail-of-the-money

For now, let's play! Every day I'll pitch two games, open for the public vote.

Let's see where we end up!

So what are people bender watching these days?

I am looking for slow compelling dramas that aren't dystopian. Pops of humour always welcome, as is utter bloody silliness.

Pretty much any language as I use subtitles even in English.

Have Netflix, Britbox, CBC Gem.

That’s it. Packed up the #AppleTV for the last time. What finally did it for me was the #Netflix app not correctly detecting streaming bandwidth and increasing resolution. And it’s done this before. Play a show, it pixelates like I’m streaming over a 300bps modem, which is sometimes normal with apps until they detect that you in fact have an #AX5400 with #wifi6 and #beamforming and the quality increases. NF app quality didn’t increase. Quit out of the app (I HATE that you can only endtask on the ATV with its own remote and ONLY with swiping turned on, which I don’t have by default because it causes misfires when clicking), start NF app again, same shit stream quality. Back to #FireStick, quality perfect.

Jesus Apple. How do you get things so right (#iPhone, #iPad) and yet so miserably wrong (AppleTV, #AppleWatch and #MacOS - yeah y’all heard me!) almost dead-on 50% of the time either way?

Just as fascinating: that people don’t even realize how much better the alternatives are. 😵‍💫🤷🏻‍♂️

Stories...

(mainly TV series available on or , but open to & too)

... that are rooted in and do something interesting with .

Note: Doctor Who is not, for the most part, about time travel. Time travel is merely a contrivance to allow for a breadth of stories, so Who doesn't count here (though I could probably think of some specific episodes that do something interesting with time travel if I put my mind to it).
The same is true of Quantum Leap.
I guess The Time Traveler's Wife (Niffenegger) would fit to a degree, but it's not quite as time travel focused as I'm looking for.

Essentially, if I get introduced to some decent stories I'll be happy.

Amazon: Get Prime and watch GREAT TV when you want, no ads!

Me: Cool. How about this film?

Amazon: Naah, that's 13 quid!

Me: Ummm... I thought I'd already paid for it but.. okay, how about this one?

Amazon: Good choice, that's FREE... with ads.

Me: Hold on...

Amazon: CAN YOU BELIEVE HOW GOOD A DEAL WE'RE GIVING YOU?

My wife likes TikTok, she's not on any other social media anymore except for that. I do have an account myself that I mostly use to watch videos she sends me.

But after being here, that app is even MORE jarring. I just hate that you open it and people are already yelling at you loudly. I just prefer text, I guess. With text, you can just read whatever you want (choice!) and easily scroll past stuff if you want to without reading it if you so choose, and you don't have actual yelling in your face.

I enjoy loud punk and brutal death metal, but that's by choice. It's different than hundreds or thousands of random assholes yelling at me, desperately trying to get my attention with vapid-seeming, weirdly put together videos on whatever topic. It's just so strange. I guess she learns stuff on there. It's too much for me.

I get the same awful feeling from YouTube yellers.

And then there's yelling from auto-playing previews on streaming services. With Netflix, you can turn that option off via desktop (a pain in the ass) but they WILL turn it back on anyway, ignoring your preference, as has happened to me now. It's awful. Another thing you can't even browse without getting constantly bombarded with loud, auto-playing previews.

I just like the chill quiet of Mastodon. Let me CHOOSE my loud music or media. I'm sick of being force-fed all the phony, excitable yelling garbage.

Einen Streamingservice den ich niemals kuendigen wuerde?

TV!

Weitaus weniger Inhalte, dafuer stimmt die Qualitaet!

Zur Zeit schaue ich:

  • The Morning Show
  • Lessons in Chemistry
  • Silo

und bin hellauf begeistert.

Prime und Co. Ich werde da durch das schiere Angebot nur noch erschlagen und ich weiss nie was ich gucken soll.

Bei Apple: Clean Interface, tolle Vorschlaege, tolle Produktionen.

Netflix's Lost in Space is not science fiction. It may be fiction, but it's pretty much the opposite of science.

Just started the new season of #BlackMirror. “Joan is Awful” was brilliant.

Did not expect that twist at the end where the Joan we were watching wasn’t the real Joan, but the “First-Level-Fiction” Joan!

I had to explain the twist like 3 or 4 times to my wife and I’m still not sure she gets it. 😂
