Fair warning, I'm watching The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses this season to 100% be a hater. Not because of the questionable and disorienting animation decisions either.
This show looks like a cute romance #anime on the surface. But I'm #disabled so unfortunately, I see a lot more here and plan to take notes.
This show is based on a #shounen property, so it's marketed at younger guys. So essentially, this is a romantic power fantasy of a disabled woman — Mei is essentially legally blind — where said woman is dependent on the man to get through a lot of basic life tasks. When you start seeing a lot of that, or have experienced that kind of thing in real life, it quickly becomes almost impossible to enjoy.
There's a thing that happens in a lot of shows in general where someone who is called everything but disabled is considered cute despite their "quirks" and the like too. Think Komi Can't Communicate if you've seen it. Now, imagine if that main character weren't a conventionally attractive girl. Would the show still be a success? In Komi's case, that's part of why so many students flock to her!
This kind of thing was brought up back when #Wednesday first hit #Netflix too. How the behaviors people said were iconic were the kinds of things a lot of autistic kids were bullied for in school. How they're only considered "cool" now because of the conventionally attractive lady doing them.
I've got a feeling I'm going to have a LOT of criticisms about this show so buckle up and get ready to have your ableist mindsets challenged! #TheGirlILikeForgotHerGlasses
I guess one of the reasons why the live action adaptation of #onepiece on #netflix is so popular is because people wanted something heartfelt and lighthearted. Times are hard enough and we had our fair share of "dark and gritty".

I mean, if ever I needed more persuading that my #Netflix sub can go away, this is it. (We still have two pre-4K Apple TVs. One is used on my tiny office TV. It works perfectly well with every other service, and so Netflix can go do one.)
Edit: to clarify, HD onwards will work with Netflix. Pre-HD (and pre-tvOS) will not. It’ll be interesting to see how rapidly everyone else does the same. (IIRC, Prime still worked on those old boxes.)
Apparently #Marvel retired the original skull logo for #ThePunisher because it was being used by alt right extremists.
Are they really that surprised that a pro America white terrorist is relatable to alt right groups? I've only watched the #MCU#Netflix shows, but he was never portrayed as any sort of hero.

Pouring one out for Netflix DVDs. Netflix does not get a lot of credit for it, but: they were instrumental in helping the USPS figure out how to get a DVD through a sorting machine without breaking it. Everybody's mail arrives faster because of Netflix.
I need to watch #Netflix#ThreeBody to be sure, but I probably wouldn't due to the butchering of Ye Wenjie's character. But I am so annoyed that a story that is told from a very Chinese perspective, with the nuance needed for China's turbulent past, has been subverted to make a political statement to fit the Western lens.
Too much to go into here, but this is why I do not trust adaptations of foreign IPs .. the need to dumb them down and Anglicize them for "general" consumption 🥴
One episode away from finishing the first season of #TheNightAgent on #Netflix. It's one of the most thrilling, nuanced, brilliantly written and acted espionage series I've ever seen. Every scene is gripping. It's also very underrated online. Don't miss it.
If you can't wait for #Netflix’s new “Three-Body Problem” show, know that #Peacock will soon stream the 30-part Chinese adaptation “Three-Body”! (See Verge article below.)
