Lemmy l'alternativa del Fediverso a Reddit sta avendo il suo momento di gloria, ma serve l'aiuto di tutto il Fediverso per far si' che questo momento magico diventi l'inizio di una nuova era!

@fediverso

@fediverso

Ecco come:

On Reddit and it’s federated rivals, Lemmy and kbin (www.jayeless.net)

As you may have heard, Reddit’s decided to pull a Twitter and start charging an extortionate amount of money for access to their previously-free API, in order to drive third-party clients like Apollo and RIF into extinction. Under Reddit’s proposed pricing, …

fastfinge, to accessibility

Hey @mastoblind and other #blind and #a11y folks: are there any #accessibility focused #lemmy instances or communities yet? Do we know the status of Lemmy with a #screenreader? The mod team over at /r/blind has been discussing the way forward for us if the #Reddit API closes. We have no firm plans or anything, but it would be good to know things about where the largest #federated Reddit alternative stands, and if moving the r/blind community to the #fediverse is even a workable proposition at the moment.

Very good summary! I've landed on pretty much the same. 👍

catching up on the little reddit to lemmy migration thats happening and so cool to see all sorts of people joining the fediverse not even realizing it. that they can be followed and interacted with by the whole fediverse and not just lemmy is the most striking part of this situation though this is like a side note or added feature in a list of "reddit alternatives"

schizanon,

@liaizon I have created accounts on #kbin and #lemmy, and although I have followed both of them with my #calckey and #mastodon accounts and vice versa, I don't feel like I am seeing any of my activities with one on the other.

schizanon,

@liaizon particularly #lemmy; I don't see the posts I've been making to some Lemmy channels, and images don't appear in the comments I've left (example; #https://calckey.social/notes/9fir1sw6c136ko7d)

Is it me... or is #Mastodon really quiet these days?

dragfyre,
@dragfyre@mastodon.sandwich.net avatar

@liztai getting quieter on the whole, but there's actually a lot of buzz happening on a wider variety of #fediverse platforms. #Calckey and #Misskey have gotten a lot of attention lately, as have #Lemmy and #kbin. #Pixelfed has had some major updates lately too.

Waitasecond #lemmy supports '!'groups and is federated so in theory I should be able to subscribe to read posts from there over here? But I'm missing something or have the premise entirely wrong since it's not working when I try it as suggested at https://lemmy.ml/c/lemmy

WIth Reddit self-destructing, many have been wondering about alternatives on the Fediverse.

I do NOT recommend Lemmy. I have serious long-standing deep concerns about the developers, see here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379

As far as I know, nothing has changed since then and Lemmy's issues remain.

Alternatively there's Kbin (https://kbin.social & https://kbin.pub) which seems less problematic. Regarding cryptocurrency issue: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediparty/pulls/97#issuecomment-663170

laurenshof, to fediverse

absolutely fascinated that new people on #lemmy are having their own reddit migration, and are calling it as such. Beehaw is seeing a pretty big inflow of users, and currently have to limit signups. Ofcourse nothing comparable in numbers to the twitter migration, but just seeing the idea being picked up and replicated of 'big-tech-migration' is interesting.

my wild bet is that we'll probably see a goodreads migration (probs 2024?) as well at some point.

Don't visit #reddit much anymore, but find myself there occasionally. It really is a mess now, with the topics and comment threads seemingly secondary to the ads and screen clutter.

Made the mistake of accessing it from a mobile device? Well – let us express our outrage at you not using our app when a browser is perfectly fine for text.

Seems like a good reason to check out #Lemmy. I don't know how much traction it has, but hopefully it's low effort to find a server and give it a try.

chillicampari, to fediverse
@chillicampari@layer8.space avatar

So, after Reddit- it looks like it's time to try Lemmy? I haven't joined an instance yet though I've been looking around. Also, is there a way to see all posts from different instances at once? That might be a naive question but I can't really tell from browsing instance views.

ghostzero, to fediverse

Having a look at the public #lemmy instances on https://join-lemmy.org/instances, it seems that most are still quite small or inactive.

Makes me wonder if it’s not better to set up my own instance just so I am in control of my own federated account and server rules…

Either that or I just stick with Bubble on #gemini 😄

DontMindMe, to internet

Just signed up for the #Reddit alternative, #Lemmy. You can find me at https://sopuli.xyz/u/DontMindMe

I'm trying to move as much of my online activity as possible to the #Fediverse, mostly because the internet sucks now, but also because I'm excited at the idea of users forming communities and sites of resistance on their own terms, free of capitalist meddling and surveillance. #enshittification #redditapi

DontMindMe,

Glad to see so many others joining the #Fediverse for much the same reason!
