Got a new used laptop and I'm about to free it from Windows.
Was thinking hard about which #linux distro to use this time (last was #manjaro and #kubuntu#ubuntu before that).
I like to try out "new" ones.
And now... well... why shouldn't I? Why not go back to where I once started.

I've been on Kubuntu for a year or so now and just noticed that my session was X11 instead of Wayland. I could've sworn the default was Wayland these days.
So, a year or so later than I thought, I'm now trying Wayland. 😖
It wasn't as straightforward as I hoped, but after some trial and error I finally managed to dual boot on my main machine. So now Kubuntu will take the main stage and Windows will be there for compatibility reasons. Curious to see what Windows soundware I can manage to make usable in Linux 🤔

I started a small survey in the LinkedIn group "The R Project for Statistical Computing" about #RKWard. The results so far:
Turns out that 83 % don't know it and
circa 8 % use it.
There were 139 people who participated in the survey. Given that RKWard is among the oldest #rstats IDEs and GUIs [1], it is somewhat surprising. I suppose we should improve the advertising of our tool.
@schluff I tested it a while ago. #esquisse for #rstats was working. Just checked. Works for me in #Kubuntu. Haven't tried in #Debian. The #webkit version is the most likely issue indeed.
I do not know if it is because of their interesting choice of logo or desktop theme and wallpaper. But the sheer amount of newbies who think to install and attempt to use, Kali Linux, is nuts, in my opinion.
If you are new to Linux, Kali Linux is not the distro for you. -- Trust me (and everyone who says the same).

Weird, #Ubuntu 22.04.3 is out but the #Kubuntu site still shows 22.04.2. Wonder when they’ll release things. I sort of always thought all the official flavors did things in lockstep.
After seeing @lemba reply about #LinuxMint I’ve decided to fire it up in a VM and take it for a spin. I’m a #Kubuntu guy but I can see the reason why Mint might be a good start for someone who has been trapped in #Windows for so long. What other #Linux OSes would you recommend for a lifelong #Windows user who might be willing to switch?
@davidbraze I have ended up giving #kubuntu a try and loving it! As a graphic designer the lack of thumbs in the file chooser was killing me! But in Kubuntu, I end up forgetting I am not in windows.
APT is completely broken and I don't know why. Whenever I try to install, remove, or upgrade, I get this error. My OS is Kubuntu 23.04. Any help would be appreciated!
Frustrated in that I can't seem to get #OpenBSD to boot on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon (7th gen). It installs fine, but it seems no amount of bios fiddling will allow it to boot after install (with or without FDE).
I did buy the X1 7th gen because of @jcs's instructions at https://jcs.org/2019/08/14/x1c7 - and followed them, just get nothing, no matter what I try to boot to or what options in the bios I change.
FreeBSD boots and #Kubuntu boots. :\ Back to Kubuntu again for a while. Wasted time is sometimes just wasted time.
