The monochromatic image of the Lower Tahquamenon Falls beautifully captures the striking contrast between the frothy white waves of the river and the green-leafed & fir trees under an overcast sky. Its universal appeal is evident in the equal number of sales for both photographs in my gallery.
It was an incredibly cold (mid-30s Fahrenheit) winter morning at sunrise on the beach in Melbourne, Florida. But to see the sky come alive with all these colors, and the reflections of the sun on the clouds overhead….worth every minute!
We visited Tahquamenon Falls in winter during light snowfall. Warmer weather the previous week melted some snow, and the water appears brown due to tannins from cedar swamps along the river. Hearing the water cascade over the falls is truly magical.
Rock Castle Gorge is one of my favorite overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Many people hike the 10.5 mile loop through here and I've heard it's a strenuous trail that will take most of the day. But the views are fantastic! Rock Castle Gorge is at Mile Post 168.6, less than 10 miles from Mabry Mill.
The Marquette Harbor Lighthouse is on Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The original lighthouse was built in 1853, but was poorly constructed, so was rebuilt in 1866 with the present lighthouse. In 1965, it was painted red, making it unique on the Great Lakes.
Growing up, I spent many hours on this observation deck overlooking the MacArthur Lock at the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. There is a 21 foot difference in water levels between Lake Superior & Lake Huron. The locks are 100% gravity-fed and require no pumps. The largest lock (Poe) needs 22 million gallons of water to lift or lower a boat!
I loved Miami Beach! We weren't there very long at all, so I didn't have as much time as I wanted to walk on the beach. This photograph is unedited or enhanced and was exactly this color. It was one of those times where you see something briefly but it lives in your heart forever.
One of the things that I love about going to the botanical gardens is because there is always something in bloom. I visited on a warm autumn day and was charmed by the white hydrangeas.
During my visit to the azalea gardens in the rain, I noticed that the white azaleas hadn't bloomed yet. The vibrant green leaves and buds in the rain created a calm and rich feast for the eyes. Witnessing the different stages of blooming was truly captivating.

Visiting the Whitefish Point Lighthouse in December was a magical experience. The oldest active light (first lit in 1849) on Lake Superior looked stunning against the icy backdrop. Capturing this moment was truly special.
In my latest series of rain-soaked photographs at Happy Hollow Gardens, I captured the raw beauty of nature in the downpour. Despite the lack of shelter, I braved the elements, balancing an umbrella and my trusty Canon DSLR to get the perfect shot. The result was worth every challenge faced.
We had a wonderful evening capturing night photos on the Milwaukee lakefront. The reflection of the buildings on the waterfront in the still water was truly breathtaking when the fountain was turned off. Stella, a jaguar at the Milwaukee County Zoo, boasted a "picture perfect" visage. She played a vital role in the global Jaguar Species Survival Plan. Her mate, Pat, rescued from peril in Belize, where habitat loss led him to cattle rustling. Together, they nurtured four offspring, contributing to conservation efforts.
