Is there any developer out there who is working on #GTK4/#libadwaita GUI editor for typesetting documents in #latex/#typst. As much as I love them, modal editors like #vim/#helix are not for me.
Ein schaler Geschmack, den der Roman #Helix des Österreichischen Autors #MarcElsberg zurücklässt. Da wären wohl wichtige Themen zu verhandeln gewesen (=Genmanipulation und die Frage ihrer gesellschaftlichen Relevanz), aber der aufgeblasene Text will unbedingt Bestseller werden und verkommt zum linear erzählten Krimischinken.
Unbedingte Empfehlung: Nicht lesen, da Zeitverschwendung!
Think I need to start planning for a total free software future. Been using Windows 10 for work and because it’s tolerable. Changed to VS Code because it’s a very good lightweight IDE. This #Recall spyware has forced me to conclude that #Microsoft have turned evil. I was optimistically naïve to think they might not be, in hindsight. So, must look to changing to Linux Mint everywhere, and getting my #NeoVim setup perfected. (May revisit #Helix, if it has a tree view now). As for Apple.. hmm.

Das problematische an #MarcElsberg|s Roman #Helix ist auch, dass er seine Recherchen über das Thema der Genmanipulation derart ungebrochen in den Romantext kippt, dass seine Romanfiguren kaum Platz finden, sich als Charaktere zu entfalten. Diese Belehrungsstrategie des Autors rächt sich durch mangelnde literarische Qualität. Der vielerorts gerühmte #Pageturner" ist einer im negativen Sinn: wieviele Seiten Erklärtext muss man überblättern, um wieder Handlung anzutreffen?
Ein lauter und unangenehmer Geselle ist in mein Bücherleben gestolpert: #MarcElsberg mit #Helix (2017). Manche empfehlen ihn als Thriller - Autor, mir ist sein Ton allerdings sehr unangenehm. Ich bedaure schon fast, ihn zu mir nachhause eingeladen zu haben. Kurze, allzu kurze Kapitel, hohes lineares Erzählgepolter und Beschreibungen von Frauen, die von Klischees nur so strotzen.
Ein wenig Geduld darf er noch abverlangen, dann wird über seinen Verbleib entschieden.

I've been moving between neovim, helix (can't get over the slightly different mental model compared to vim), vscode, rustrover... Curious what others use.
@hgrsd I found it easier to hack on #helix than manage #neovim plugins, so I brought some #vim keybindings to Helix. My „soft fork“ is still young, but the idea works (https://github.com/usagi-flow/helix); been using it productively for quite a while.
Any opinions about #helix (the code editor written in #Rust, strongly inspired by #neovim?
It looks fine but I couldn't configure a simple #Python LSP that made it usable for me. I think I will stick with neovim for the time being, although I agree that relying too much on plugins can be a ticking bomb. (For instance, I just learned today that one formatting plugin I use stopped being maintained a few months ago :omya_blobcat:.)

Pour qui ne connaîtrait pas encore nos ateliers #tupperVim : on y parle de #Vim (no shit, Sherlock ?), de #Neovim (<3), mais aussi de #Kakoune, d’#Helix ou même d’#Emacs (coucou @ThierryStoehr !), et plus généralement de tous les outils cools qui tournent dans un terminal — le tout, dans un cadre convivial.
(Ne pas assister à ce genre d’événement est une faute de goût.)

Really not a fan of all this AI nonsense going on in IDEs. #Jetbrains with an un-uninstallable AI plugin (not to mention increasingly poor performance), #zed looks promising and luckily the AI stuff can be disabled but it’s lacking features because it’s new-ish. VSCode is a nope…
Anyone has recommendations for an alternative? I mainly work with #php#laravel#rust and #typescript. Obvious choice for me is #neovim or #helix but I’m finding it such a chore to get working, not to mention tooling.
Oh well, now I've moved on from "Hello, world!" in #development with #Rust to a simple form #web page. In that sense I've learned a lot, although very slowly, because I'm not mentally fit today. I still learn a lot every time I do the #RustLang. Well, then I'll configure the #Helix editor first so that I like it and it's easy for me to use 🧬🦀
@kubikpixel Using #Helix certainly boosted my productivity when developing in #RustLang. Used #NeoVim before but was unable to configure it such that it is as effective for me as Helix is out of the box.
