Facebook/Meta starts talking about the "Extend" phase of Embrace, Extend, Extinguish as predicted:
"“You could imagine an extension to the protocol eventually — of saying like, ‘I want to support micropayments,’ or … like, ‘hey, feel free to show me ads, if that supports you.’ Kind of like a way for you to self-label or self-opt-in. That would be great,”
In #LibrePlanet talk about #GNU#Taler the speaker Iván Alejandro Ávalos Díaz is warning us about our future in 2050 where we no longer have #Freedoms to choose our payment systems, pay with cash, or pay at all if we were behaving 'naughty'.
> Microsoft has the government locked in as a customer, so the government’s options for forcing change at Microsoft are limited, at least in the short term.
This applies to the states of the 🇪🇺 #EU and many other countries as well. But the bigger problem is: Nobody seems to care. Many times people just shrug and say that we can't change that anyway. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
To me it's the same situation as with the 🌡️ #ClimateCrisis. You can make the change. Switch to #FreeSoftware such as a :linux: #GNU / #Linux system, support #OpenSource projects through contribution and donation, and never trust the cloud (other people's computers).
No #AI or "genius" at #Microsoft or other #BigTech company will save the world or protect you from #Cybercrime. It's up to you and it's your responsibility to make the change. 🛡️ #ITSec is a process that begins with your #Commitment to it, and the #Internet is no sandpit (anymore).
We are committed to the development of free software and open source, therefore, we support and recommend one of the first distributions that gave us a hand when we are starting with the update of Midori, a special thanks to SparkyLinux and we recommend to the users to use this great distribution.
We need #openhardware with #bluetooth so we can link them it to #MyGNUHealth.
Currently we have @pine64eu smartwatch, but we'd love to integrate scales, glucometers, blood pressure monitors...
Just reply to this toot or send us a message if you know of any device. We'd love to test them!🤗 #GNU#GNUHealth#pinephone#PineTime
One of the improvements I’m seeing with #Fedora 40 is a significant reduction in the time it takes the #desktop to initialize after logging in. Previously, the process used to take ages and particularly then for #Firefox to show any pages. A marked improvement.
I can finally say I’ve upgraded successfully to #Fedora40. It was not without hassle this time and it started with what seemed to be a system that did not even give me a prompt after #rebooting, although the update process had seemed to go smoothly and quickly. Luckily, the virtual screens were working and so I could #login to a #shell. Although #sddm didn’t seem to be working, #kdm was and so I was able to open a desktop session, but only in #Gnome
"I hope you don’t mind me asking but what keeps you coming back to #Emacs? I am currently wondering whether to look at #Neovim again - it does seem to be faster and with a strong community around it."
I'm just going to convert essential scripts from bash to the ever-forever-better csh.
nothing to see here #linux users, just another systems architect finally losing trust that the #GNU organization could right-side/ship-shape their community.
🏴☠️ bye bye bash, it was sometimes fun while it lasted, but mostly not.
Facebook today tracks a staggering 3 billion people around the world. It spreads deadly disinformation at a scale never seen before. And it's essentially ruled by just one man.
What started as Mark Zuckerberg's student website in 2004, has morphed into one of the world's most dangerous corporations.
So this may sound naive ... but we could help fight Facebook simply by saying "STOP"!

{I|We}'ve been using #GNU#Guix's "block-facebook-hosts-service-type' (and earlier variants of this meme) for about a decade now. Where are y'all at?
