..and this is the parameter-driven pot in #Fusion360. Great starting point for learning surface modelling, until now I'd only been using solid modelling.
I like to build my own furniture. Where possible I use Blum hinges and other items from their ecosystem, only their push to open brackets didn’t fit my needs. So, on to #Fusion360 again, make a prototype on the #BambuLab , do some adjustments and print the final product #3DPrinting . It’s nice to have the ability to make parts you otherwise couldn’t get. @3dprinting
So, what do people use to design their #3dprinting models? Blender seems to work, but I'm fairly certain there are better tools for technical drawings..
@sol_hsa I started with #Fusion360, but got fed up with it and switched to #FreeCAD. Another option would be #OpenSCAD, but this seems like quite a steep learning curve from my point of view.
#Blender is better for animation and non-dimention specific models.
Personally, I loved #Fusion360, but I moved to #Linux recently, so now I use the browser-based designer #OnShape.
It took some adjustment, but both used industry standards, so I just had to learn where everything was and what the icons looked like. Now, I barely notice a difference and actually like OnShape.
My only criticism is that it doesn't allow for easy importing of models into other models as Fusion360 did.
What do you use for designing 3D models (for 3D printing)? Despite the high end hardware (M1 Max) #Fusion360 is constantly freezing up on me. #3DPrinting
This was so satisfying to design. I got to use a whole pile of skills that I've been learning over the years. This assembly prints beautifully without supports, parts snap fit together snugly, things flex that should flex. I'm happy. #3dprinting#cad#Fusion360
Working on improving my CNC flag by adding military insignia, and I may have bitten off more than my computer can chew. Converting the STL to a solid in Fusion360 has bogged it down to frozen.
I am playing around in #Onshape after recentlyly making the switch from #Fusion360.
The interface has a lot of changes and I don't have the muscle memory that I had in Fusion360 yet and I am still learning the icons, but it is fun.
One thing I like, which might have been possible in Fusion360 but I never found it, is the "Variable studio" function.
It allows you to easily set variables accross many designs. So I can use parameters such as NumWalls, TopLayers, BottomLayers and NozzleDiameter across many designs and change it one place.
Fusion360 had a variable and parameter function which I used all the time for parametric designs, but I find this far more intuitive.
One of my biggest challenges switching back to #Linux now, is the lack of support for #Fusion360 used for #3dprinting.
Many would critisize me for using Fusion360, but hey! It works!
I am productive, efficient and good in it. I have my workflow and I have 2 years of experience in it. It has its problems and me using it is in no way me actually liking and approving of their business practises or how they treat our community.
So I guess I am finally making the switch to #onshape
@valkyrie @FreeCAD is my software or choice. I started with #Fusion360, but grew to hate it for its inferior performance in being sluggish overall. I don't have enough determination, time, and patience to learn #OpenSCAD. This leaves #FreeCAD as the only (but still a very good) choice.
Prototyping a dial controller friend for Pikku macropad. The "Pikku Dial". Have to get some rubber feet on that as it's too light and slippery when dial is turned so it easily rotates the whole case. Testing with various knob designs. #3dPrinting#CircuitPython#RaspberryPi Pico
I’m #OpenToWork again! I’m a #backend engineer with 10+ years of experience in differently-sized organizations and a specialization in #Elixir.
I’m comfortable working closely with the business doing product work, as well as focusing on the tech infrastructure, system design, and algorithm side of things. I’ve also spent some time as a tech lead. Apart from Elixir, I have done work in .NET, C++, Dart, Ruby, and even #Fusion360. I’d be excited to get some professional experience with #Rust or #golang.
Buzzword-wise I’ve had production experience with #SQL and NoSQL dbs, event-sourced systems, devops work using AWS, Terraform, Ansible, Docker, #GraphQL/absinthe, #Kafka, and more
