Nice catch, @cheeaun! A quick peek under the hood shows that both are new MPL-licensed projects.
The Android client (started by @obez in early July) is steadily climbing the feature curve + may already be usable internally for dogfooding purposes.
By comparison, so far the iOS effort (started by @gio barely a month ago) is just a placeholder by members of the Pocket 8.0/8.1 team. Presumably they're still assessing whether they'd be better off rebranding #IceCubes like they did with #Elk.
@pevohr got your point. From my observation, most folks will start from official apps first, so I felt would be great if more work done there, in the same community-driven collaborative vibe like #Elk and #IceCubesApp
For Android's side, there are @megalodon and @moshidon — forks of Mastodon Android app.
had to take an actual photo of my laptop's screen because i can't get a screenshot of it with the Mastodon deck search field tab exposed.
am kinda frustrated with the #accessibility issues i've had with the platform. no matter what i tried, i could not properly perform a search... because i couldn't register correctly what i was seeing in that exposed tab.
where it not for the #Stylebot#Firefox extension, i would have ditched Mastodon a long time ago.
Tiens, tiens !
@teleclimber thanks 🙇♂️! FYI Mastodon's new full text search actually depends on your instance, not the apps/clients 🙂.
#Elk actually show the same 3 sections of results too — hashtags, accounts and posts, but they're inside the dropdown instead, so have to scroll down more.
I just noticed @elk doesn't show search results that were enabled in Mastodon 4.2. In fact activity on the Elk repo has slowed down quite a bit. It's still good, but...
S'il vous plait, est-ce que vous pouvez me dire si on peut effacer ses "brouillons" 🗒️ et comment faire ?
J'y arrive pas. Je les vois, mais ...c'est tout. Je voudrais les supprimer.
Merci 🙏
Like, everyone outside of Mastodon must issue a #CW if they use
bold type
italics
a code block
a bullet-point list
or anything like that because it irritates those who are still used to the #Fediverse only being old-school Mastodon. You know, just like #LongPosts with over #500Characters.
@jupiter_rowland While I agree with you, I think you're kind of exaggerating the likelihood of this. Most developers and many people running instances, in particular, wouldn't be so inclined.
I think it might become a "kind social practice" to have a CW for long posts, but in truth, most people won't bother. The old school of tightly constrained politeness is fading, I think.
Also, there are many of us on Mastodon who view posts through things like #Elk, which display text formatting.
Full text search is now live on many instances running version v4.2.0 !!!
It is "opt-in", meaning you need to check the "Include public post in search results" box to enable your posts to be searchable: Click Preferences (on right near bottom [gear icon]) >>> Click Public Profile (on left near top [person icon]) >>> Click Privacy and reach box (near top [lock icon]) >>> Under Search (scroll down middle of page)
Full text search has been merged in #Mastodonmain branch, and will be in the next (and final?) 4.2.0 beta 🎉
It is opt-in, so it will take some time to be filled with people content as they enable their profile to be indexed, but this was one of the most wanted Mastodon features for some time.
We plan to deploy it to mastodon.social and mastodon.online in the coming days to have a bit more feedback on it and see how it behaves in the wild.
Wow that meme post from the other day was by far my most popular toot. I definitely was not expecting that, but I appreciate that our community supports the same kind of humor :D
It's been super fun! I am porting over certain threat detection alerts over to a slack channel. Utilizing Elastalert allows me to do it for free. The only catch is you have to hand build the YAML files, but honestly it's been a great learning experience. I highly recommend it anyone using ELK and wants alerting!
I think we're in a better place now with the web tier, I need to build one more node out and normalise some of the infrastructure setup but I think (and with a lot of help from @zach ) we're back up and running a lot more stable now and I haven't been able to reproduce the blank page issue for some time!
@wild1145@zach Using #elk on #universeodon has been pretty good the last few days. Not sure if the interface helps with slowness or maybe it's just coincidence. Still, thank you for all your hard work saving the instance! :blobheart: https://elk.universeodon.com
Twitter is like a top of the range Lamborghini but you’re trapped in the boot full of broken bottles and it’s being driven over a cliff by a madman.
Mastodon is like sitting in the back of a dilapidated VW camper van, with knackered suspension, no air conditioning, but lots of nice passengers having a sing-song and there’s a dog called Mr. Snuffles.
