tobiaalberti,

@protonprivacy I see. So you need to update your "We believe in the power of open source" page as soon as possible.

  1. To make it clear the Proton Calendar apps aren't open source yet.
  2. To link to the relevant GitHub repositories/orgs (it doesn't make sense for the GitHub link for Proton Drive to just link to the Proton Mail org if the app's code isn't there).

Also what's up with having multiple GitHub orgs for Proton's code? Wouldn't it make more sense to move everything under a single org?

@weblate Hello! I assume the Weblate Mobile app currently available in the App Store (https://apps.apple.com/app/weblate-mobile/id1620133171) is not an official Weblate app (I couldn’t find any mention of it on your website)?

If this is indeed the case, is this an independent app you’ve already reviewed and can recommend people use?

Link previews for #CryptPad docs on some apps/websites have a strange issue. Here's an example as far as Mastodon is concerned: https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/GQrFN4ZtjxDx1Qf2Yy5bWqOhKzhbeOs7yair9HhkfEg/

If you click the link (above) you open the actual document. If you click the related link preview (below) you just create a new empty document.

Why?

There is a noticeable decline in the number of active users on Infosec.exchange lately. Where are the cool kids hanging out these days?

tobiaalberti,

@jerry @potatogunkelly Active users on Hachyderm dropped from 12,650 to 12,369 (-2.2%) between the 7 and 28 January: https://cryptpad.fr/sheet/#/2/sheet/view/QVN+N2nDZ9d34uQnr380zhVZTimceosFjLMFtmMIfnY/

Should the unread counter always count post above the current position? Even if you scroll all the way up and then down?

tobiaalberti,

@IceCubesApp The behaviour I personally prefer is Ivory’s: They count all unread posts (not just newly loaded ones). If you scroll up the number in the counter decreases, if you scroll down the counter goes away (is hidden) until you scroll up again to the first unread post.

Do you know what is in the new editor? The animated counter!

tobiaalberti,

@IceCubesApp This is nice, but tapping away from the “•••” menu still opens posts, instead of just dismissing the menu..

The last 10 days have been a whirlwind for the #fediverse. Important new versions of @mammoth and @ivory launched. Wordpress and Tumblr reaffirmed their commitment to ActivityPub. And Threads and Flipboard began to federate. What does this all mean for the fediverse? How will moderation work? Who will be next to federate?

I asked @Gargron the founder and CEO of Mastodon.

Check out this very special interview which notably is hosted on our #PeerTube instance.

https://flipboard.video/w/cTBu4HusskGTuPBahqm6WY

tobiaalberti,

@mike Interesting episode. But this is 5th episode (out of 5) that the person being interviewed is a man, of which all but one are white. Any plans to fix this?

tobiaalberti,

@protonmail I see public holidays calendars count as regular calendars when it comes to the 3-calendar limit free accounts have.

Would you consider excluding them from that limit, or at least make it so they count against a separate limit for “Other calendars”?

Public holiday calendars seem like something that should be available to everybody by default.

We redesigned the in-app registration to make it easier to join Pixelfed!

    Edit: Now available!

    tobiaalberti,

@pixelfed I do hope that by the time Instagram starts asking European users to pay in order to avoid tracking and profiling a stable version of Pixelfed will be waiting for them on the App Store and Google Play 🙂

    kevinrothrock, to random

Yo, Europeans, Meta is now willing to take your money directly for an “ad-free” experience. But it ain’t cheap. https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/30/23938283/facebook-instagram-ad-free-subscription-eu

    tobiaalberti,

@kevinrothrock This is not about ads, this is about consent. My understanding is that people will either accept to be tracked and profiled or they will have to pay.

A note: Maybe the headline could be updated to make it clear the issue is fixed with iOS 17.1? As it stands people only learn that mid-way through the article 🙂

Hey @ivory, it appears there’s been some issues with notifications on the iPhone these past few weeks.

I only see them when I open the app, even though I have them enabled both in the app and in iOS settings.

    tobiaalberti,

@ivory Thanks! Will let you know how it goes 🙂

Like the legend of the phoenix, we're resurrecting Mozilla Send, an end-to-end encrypted file share service, and bringing it under our wings as Thunderbird Send. In this clip from S1E5 of the ThunderCast, developer Chris Aquino gives us a sneak peek of the new - wait, old - er, reborn project!

Learn how Send will help you overcome your file upload woes, respect your privacy, safeguard against abuse, and hopefully change your experience for the better.

    tobiaalberti,

@thunderbird Are you by any chance also thinking about bringing back the original Firefox Send experience (a standalone web-based tool) in some form or another?

We just released security patches for versions 3.5, 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2. If you are using nightly, you can upgrade to 4.2.0-rc2 safely. We strongly suggest you upgrade to one of those versions in the coming days.

Hope it happens soon, and thank you for the info!

Element Call Beta 3 is here at last! 🚀🎥📺

This is a huge update, now with 100s of users per call & Brady Bunch layout thanks to LiveKit + Element Web/Desktop Develop/Nightly native support too! One catch: E2EE is temporarily off while we hook it up.

    https://element.io/blog/element-call-beta-3/

    tobiaalberti,

@element Hello. Can we expect support for calls with up to (and potentially more than) 100 participants to work fine even now that E2EE has been enabled by default on call.element.io?

I know this is still beta software, I guess I'm wondering what your expectations are for Element Call at this stage of its development.

PS: Are you committed to keeping Element Call available via the browser and with no account requirements for the forseable future?
