We've got a #Czech-focused podcast for you this week. We're discussing what happened when the Wall Street Journal rather patronisingly described Czechia as 'a small ex-Soviet satellite state'. Plus, why the Czech government is so much less scared of China than others in Europe.
During #Biden’s speech on #healthcare yesterday he was interrupted by protesters advocating for #Palestinians in #Gaza. Instead of ignoring them & moving on, #POTUS responded, “They have a point; we need to get more care into Gaza.” He added, “Everybody deserves healthcare.”
Remarks by #Gallant & #LloydAustin before the meeting underscored the divide. While both noted their countries’ commitment to #Israel’s #security, Gallant emphasized what he said was the urgent need to destroy #Hamas, secure the release of Israeli #hostages & “ensure Israel’s military edge & capabilities.”
#LloydAustin focused on the dire consequences the #war has had for #Palestinian#civilians. “The number of civilian casualties is far too high, & the amount of #HumanitarianAid is far too low,” he said. The safety of #Palestinians in #Rafah, where >1 million people are holed up, was a “top priority,” he added.

'Until recently, information about Member State delegations from 1946 to 1994 could only be found in print copies of the Blue Book....

We start off with Tracey A. Sowerby who many of you already know from her many publications and conferences that she organised. On the international scene, she really put #emdiplomacy and its cultural aspects back on the map.
She especially focusses on #diplomatic cultures, on #gender and #earlymodern#diplomacy and cross-confessional #diplomacy.
In 2021, she edited a volume on diplomatic cultures at the Ottoman Court.
Moreover, together with Ruggero Sciuto Sowerby is organising the TORCH Network on Diplomacy in the Early Modern Period with regular talks and other activities:
Today, we want to introduce you to another pioneer of #NewDiplomaticHistory who did a lot to promote the subject on an international scene: Roberta Anderson who is also a member of our editorial board. (4/n)
She is co-founder of the premodern #diplomats network and Splendid Encounters conference series that provides a wonderful opportunity to discuss #emdiplomacy in a relaxed atmosphere; especially for early career researchers.

#Trump’s hands-off approach to the bloody #MiddleEast conflict reflects the profound #AntiInterventionist [#isolationist] shift he has brought about in the #Republican Party over the past 8 yrs & has been colored by his feelings about #Netanyahu, whom he may never forgive for congratulating President #Biden for his 2020 victory.

Under #BigPinkBookOnTour we take you on a journey to all the places where #emdiplomacy research takes places.
If you spot the handbook in the wild, please post pictures, too! (1x)
