This area between Bangladesh and Myanmar is about to get hit by tropical cyclone Mocha, with wind speeds over 213 km/h (Cat 4) at landfall.
Besides the local population, this area houses close to a million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, who live in abject poverty in makeshift dwellings.
The waters in the Bay of Bengal are currently around 30°C, about 2°C warmer than average for May.

Tropical cyclone Mocha is less than a week old.
May 6: started as a disturbance in the Bay of Bengal near 6.1N, 93.4E.
May 9: Upgraded to a depression, located near 8.3N, 89.5E.
May 11: Upgraded to a cyclonic storm and given the name Mocha.
May 12: Wind speeds over 90 knots.
May 13: Wind speeds 130 knots (240 km/h).

The widespread restrictions on freedom of expression undermine the conditions for open political debate ahead of elections, scheduled for January 2024.
"Looking at historical data from 1959 to 2021, we found that 31% of Earth’s land surface has already experienced such statistically implausible #heat.
We must be very cautious about using the historical record in isolation to estimate the “maximum” #heatwave possible. Policymakers across the globe should prepare for exceptional heatwaves that would be deemed #implausible based on current records."
