I called this piece "schelphoorn]", which is the Dutch word for seashell horn, aka the conch. That's an ancient wind instrument "that has been played in many Pacific Island countries, as well as South America and Southern Asia" (that's from Wikipedia). The sound that you can hear at the beginning of this track is that of a conch shell. It makes me think of the very first musical souls of our species, who found a way to express themselves before the first instruments were created. I wonder which rhythms did the first human musician create, on their conch...
A small snip of my Bandcamp wishlist shows how kinda weird my music taste is though, nice poppy things like La Luz and Fleur right next to death metal things like Redlord, Act of Impalement and Faceless Burial. I suppose they all have great beats and basslines
Good timezone fediverse,
Today's song is Music for a found Harmonium by Penguin Café Orchestra
The Penguin Cafe Orchestra were an avant-pop band led by English guitarist Simon Jeffes. Co-founded with cellist Helen Liebmann. The band's sound is not easily categorized, having elements of exuberant folk music and a minimalist aesthetic occasionally reminiscent of composers such as Philip Glass.
🎵 Before Armstrong took his steps, she’d been there... with friends! They took all instruments, and recorded on the moon—gathered a variety of sounds from where the air is different!
