Eric Clapton: "And I thought, what is this, the Spanish Inquisition? And it is! It’s #AIPAC, it’s the lobby. #Israel is running the show. Israel is running the world.”
For all of my adult life I have been strongly opposed to #aipac and similar organizations equating criticism of #israel with #antisemitism not only because it’s disingenuous but because it’s dangerous. It has the effect of “crying wolf” so that real acts of #antisemitic harassment and violence aren’t taken seriously. It’s also a funhouse mirror version of the “dual loyalty” trope that makes it harder to distinguish between the position of Israel’s government and the #Jewish diaspora.
Intercept: " After House Speaker Mike Johnson Pushed Through Israel Aid Package, AIPAC Cash Came Flowing In
The pro-Israel lobby donated around $95,000 to Johnson after he led the House passage of an extra $14 billion for Israel. "
There was a time when #AIPAC really was a non-partisan #Israel advocacy group, and accusations that it was inappropriately involved in US politics really were antisemitic.
That time is over. AIPAC is now unabashedly right-wing and actively contributing to the deterioration of American democracy.
Unfortunately, many American Jewish institutions haven't figured that out, or have but are too cowardly to disavow AIPAC, or the worst possibility of all, they support what it's doing.
A spokesman for #JStreet, accused Aipac of attempting to impose a narrow definition of what it is to be pro-Israel:
“#Aipac may hope to silence and intimidate political leaders who believe that settlement expansion, endless conflict and permanent occupation are harmful to Israel, the Palestinian people and US interests. Ultimately, however, these common-sense views are too popular, widespread and important to be suppressed.”
Here in New York, thousands of protesters led by union organizers marched through the streets of Manhattan Thursday evening to demand a ceasefire and an end to the influence of the powerful lobby group AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Protesters marched past AIPAC’s offices holding banners displaying the...
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is reportedly secretly intervening to stymie Susheela Jayapal's (sister of Rep. Pramila) congressional race in Portland.
AIPAC is funneling money through 314 Action, which says it helps elect Democrats with a science background, in this case Maxine Dexter, a doctor.
Jewish Insider news had floated Dexter as a potentially pro-Israel candidate before she entered the race.
Support on #Tiktok for #Palestine is 8 to 1 v. #Israel and here is the ADL CEO who has been successful with #AIPAC in their lobbying bid to ban it (it passes today). 1/2
As American Jews, we know #AIPAC does not represent us. We keep trying to tell this to Rep. Katherine Clark (MA-05) but she won’t listen.
If she would, she'd realize that the McCarthyite “Antisemitism Awareness Act” she voted for yesterday does nothing to keep us safe. In fact, it does the opposite.
"Israel is fighting a just and necessary war," asserted U.S. Senator from Arkansas, #TomCotton, in support of Israel continuing its genocide in Gaza.
The Senator also suggested that "the House has no choice but to impeach #Biden over delayed Israel aid." This highlights the extent to which U.S. senators supported by #AIPAC funding are willing to go to ensure Israel remains armed with U.S. weaponry.
The Israel lobby exerts incredible power and influence over America. Some identify only one organization, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), as “the lobby” citing its influence on Capitol Hill. This is wrong. Many interconnected organizations channel their power and influence through AIPAC in Congress.
I called and left messages and emailed Senator Murray (D-WA) since the beginning of the genocide in Palestine, asking her to support a #ceasefire. She has been completely absent on providing a response to me and the thousands of her constituents who have demanded the same thing. She is usually quick to respond on any issue you would reach out on. Turns out when you accept over $680k from #AIPAC it is easy to deny Palestinian suffering.
