Journalist Antoinette Lattouf was sacked by the #ABC "after a coordinated campaign by Jewish lawyers over her work on Gaza.
"Lawyers for Israel coordinated an effort to get Lattouf fired, [saying, eg] 'It is important ABC hears not just from individuals..but specifically lawyers so they feel there is an actual legal threat'."
Lattouf cited Human Rights Watch on Israel “using starvation of civilians as a weapon of war in Gaza”

"The ABC is shutting down almost all of its official accounts on Twitter – now known as X under Elon Musk’s ownership – citing “toxic interactions”, cost and better interaction with ABC content on other #SocialMedia platforms."
Following Musk's latest hateful antics, I've messaged the ABC (Australia) to urge then to leave X entirely on the basis that it's clearly turned into a platform supporting far-right hate speech. Also urged them to follow the BBC's example in setting up a presence here.

#McBride Was sentenced today. Six years, or two years if he gets out on parole.
McBride was not allowed a lot of his evidence in court, preventing any possibility of him winning the case.
David McBride photocopied over 200 proofs of the #Australian [#Australia ] military committing, and hiding, war crimes in Afghanistan.
After McBride released his proof to the #ABCaustralia the AFP raided the journalists. Jailing journalists is a dangerous precedent that the government has toyed with for decades, but never committed to (see #WitnessK ). Jailing McBride is possibly the most damaging thing to Australian #democracy the government has enacted in decades. It was possible to pardon him, like they did with Witness K.
Fuck the judge that sentenced him, fuck the prosecution, and fuck the government ministers for not speaking out on this, even the ones that couldn't do anything about it.
There are broader questions here about national capability and technological inter-dependence on other countries
But for me, it was another reminder of how much of our #infrastructure is hidden, unseen, yet able to shape our everyday lives. Surfacing hidden infrastructures helps us think critically about who's shaping those infrastructures, and for what purpose.
