For all those who need a few boxes "just in a hurry" and have a #3DPrinter, I would like to recommend https://bento3d.design - if you don't already know it anyway. Great tool!

FREE 3D Printer! Any #UK #maker that wants this customised and upgraded Ender 2 #3dprinter just needs to come and collect it from J4/J5 M40 ASAP, ideally this weekend.

I gave about 20 of these away, back when I had a big following on the other site, before it became a festering shitpile and this is the last one I have left. It was the testbed for customisation, so it's fully loaded!

I'm sure the shipping is $5.00 😂

A #3Dprinter with a 4mm a side working volume means a cramped workspace. I've been holding the glass beds in place with blue tape, which has its own issues. So here's my fix for that, a teeny weeny clamp.

I've had so many issues with my Anycubic resin 3d printer, and for this and other reasons, have been considering an FDM/filament printer.

Is it fair to say that most printers in the $150-300 range are crap? I just saw on one of her LED necklace tutorials that @geekmomprojects uses the Prusa MINI+, and it seems like a good number of makers speak highly of that brand, so maybe that's where I'll look. But any tips on where else to look/stay away from are appreciated!

@moira Hi! I really appreciate this reply. Just the sort of perspective/angle of review I was looking for. Sorry for my delay in replying---thank you for taking time to help me!

I live for learning/tinkering but with all of my learning/tinkering time tied up in other projects, I think I'm willing to pay a bit more for 'turnkey', so long as it's an easy machine to maintain/repair. Thank you again

@yelof Not at all, and I hope you have lots of fun with your new printer! (I think 3D printing is pretty dang cool even if you want or need turnkey. :D )

Firing up the ole' FDM printer today to try printing one of these figurines out! Using PLA since that's all I have at the moment. Perhaps Amazon can deliver me some PETG later.

Anyone else's #prusa #3dprinter go into thermal runaway if the room gets too cold? My one starts emitting alarm tones with all fans flat out if the room gets down to 10°

@scruss Runaway no, unable to print until we turn the heating on, yes.

I've managed to get a recognizably square test object carved out on a microscope slide using the μRepRap #3dprinter prototype hardware. That's a 0.5mm square carved inside a 1mm square. Full details in the blog post:

My main reason for getting into #3DPrinting was to print the #WarcraftRumble minis. I started with an FDM printer and had so so results. This past weekend we got a resin printer and the results have been much much better. 😍

I still need to do a little sanding on the support "bumps" but I am so impressed with how well it looks.

My primary #3Dprinter died in the middle of a big multi-print session. Had it all apart yesterday to see the remedial work I did on the hot end last year isn't cutting it anymore.

Part I need is a new PTFE heatsink throat liner, but it's an OD of about 3.5 - 3.8mm (depending on which calipers I believe) which doesn't seem to be sold anywhere. 3mm is prob too small and 4mm (of which I have plenty) is too big.

Ordered some 3mm overnight anyway. Will try it today.

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

Should prob replace the well-used hotend. The selection process is a bit tedious though. May need to print a new mount block.

Meanwhile my old printer is working, but doesn't produce fantastic quality results.

(Old and new machines are Monoprice Mini v1 & v2 which have worked very well for me for yrs!)

Visited the local 3D printing shop I'd heard about, (Colonnade road, "EnviroLaser3D"). And they have parts as well as reasonably priced filament!

Bought a new hotend assembly on which I can swap heatsinks and make work for me. Good prices.

Lalufu,

@eigengott @jwildeboer That's debatable? In the general case sure, but for specific cases with a small enough n and enough compute this can be absolutely feasible.

Things people with #3DPrinters do instead of having fun outside :)

Printing and analysing temperature towers to have good print parameters per spool. It’s still annoying that you have to generate spool specific gcode or manually fiddle with the temperature while printing instead of telling the printer “I am using spool #3, that’s the orange PLA with 215°C for the first layer and 205°C for all other layers, as you know”.

@jwildeboer Its stuff like this which has precluded me from getting into 3d printing. Everything just seems so... finicky.

Frame square? platform level? heads warm? feed stock plasmafied? planets aligned? turn the oven off? You so much as fart and everything is ruined, have to start over.
