Imho all #governments in all countries on all levels should communicate via the #fediverse, instead of via commercial services. Why should a profit-maximizing feed #algorithm, and an ad placement algorithm get between the citizen and their government in a democracy?
#30DayMapChallenge Day 30, My Favourite... tool is the #rayverse. Free, open-source, well-documented, frequently updated, path/ray tracing, rasterisation, CSG, flexible, reproducible, terrific community, and limited only by data availability. Best packages I've ever discovered.
Also spinning, almost forgot that one. And earless pigs.
#30DayMapChallenge Day 30: My favorite. These are populated places with "cat" in the name, using the heart-shaped Bonn projection, representing my love for maps and cats. Made with #QGIS. Data from #NaturalEarth.
#30DayMapChallenge Day 29 favourite. This is my favourite I didn't post on the day. This was for black & white theme, and is an attempt at a linocut effect.
Ouput plain black/white from #qgis, but result was a bit 'sharp', both in tone and shape.
Used #gimp. Oilify + Ripple to soften and simplify shapes, Noise Hurl followed by Desaturate to soften tones
Used Ordnance Survey OpenZoomStack crown copyright and database right.
Last day: The 30th Map 🗺️ of #30DayMapChallenge is "My favourite..." alternative #map of United #Europe 🇪🇺 of Circular states 🔵. Each circular state has a capital city radiating from the European Capital City in Vilnius, where it lays its geographic center.
For day 2️⃣ 9️⃣ of #30DayMapChallenge I looked again at where Welsh is spoken in Wales. I did this a few years ago, but this time I used 2021 Census data as well as language medium of primary (ages 5-11) education. Result looks very similar to 6 years ago.
My Uncle researched historical Welsh isoglosses, so I include his map too.
#30DayMapChallenge Day 29: Population. Shropshire population by parish 2021. Geographically correct and a cartogram. Created in #qgis with cartogram3 plugin using data from https://www.nomisweb.co.uk
One more for #30DayMapChallenge 29: Population. This was a backup idea; might as well share it. This shows the population of people living under democracy and dictatorship, defined by a country's level of suffrage, free and fair elections, and freedom of association and the press.
#30DayMapChallenge Day 29: Population. Having done pop density maps of most of the world, I wanted to try something different. Our livestock and us comprise 9 pop maps showing the global distribution of people, chickens, ducks, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, and buffaloes. Needs work but I'm too tired at this point so this will have to do.
Change in population of London 1990-2020 per 1skm. Growth almost everywhere but largest in East London. Unsurprising considering new developments around Stratford (ie. Olympics) and other areas in East since then.
Initially I thought of cheekily mapping a set of points on a scatter plot with their longitudes and latitudes as the plot’s two variables plus either the point size or color as an additional 1 or 2 variables.
But I settled with this neat Nightingale/wind/polar/rose chart showing the most distant mainland communes of France from Paris in fixed intervals of bearing. As you can see, the chart shape kinda still looks like #France 🇫🇷. 😅
#30DayMapChallenge Day 28: Chart or map? I confess—this was challenging and I'm not sure if it fits today's theme. But it's my first cartogram! Here's the global state of liberal democracy in 2022 where each country's size is distorted relative to its value of liberal democracy.
