Though I would point out that the main reason that I won't buy an HP printer anymore is because they have it tied to their website like that. That's like 100% turn off lol
@Aglaia89@njudah WTF!?
So people can't even sell their used ink??
Okay, that's it! #Inkjet printers are now 100% #Scam at best if not #ReducedLifecycle-based, intentional #eWaste and every retailer selling that shit in lieu of #Toner is complicit in the grift!!!
It's why I recommend anyone looking at inkjets to "save money" consider investing just a small bit more to get a black and white laserjet, something from like Brother or something. They're less than a hundred dollars more expensive but the toner doesn't expire and the printing is 10 times faster and 100 times sharper as long as you don't need color.
Even colour versions like some WorkCentre are fine since toner can't dry up, they have a long support lifetime, can connect to literally everything and are just pleasant to use.
Not to mention that if you look at office surpliers, refurbishers and espechally on eBay, you'll get them for absurdly low prices as good working & used models...
@orangejuche@Aglaia89@njudah And for those people that don't have the money to do that, their print volume is so low, they might just drive to the next copy- or printshop in the next town and get that PDF printed there since that's more economical than paying €€ for a new printer or €€€ for new ink.
I've never seen one pay the MSRP for a Xerox WorkCentre, and often they're like half of that.
Also those devices are built to last so you can easily get a 10-20+ yr old laser printer and the manufacturer will likely still have drivers for current OSes or at the very least support something like "Print from Network" or "Print from USB"...
Worst-Case you get some 90s hp LaserJet that you've to hoopup via Centrocics to USB adapter to on a @Raspberry_Pi#RaspberryPi or other Linux SBC and set it up as network printer...
@derickr@kkarhan@Aglaia89@njudah I absolutely stan Brother printers, never had issues with them in over 10 years of using them, meanwhile HP was a mess and xerox was expensive when it broke.
@lori@Aglaia89@njudah The only reason I still have my #DeskJet6122 up and running is because it refuses to die and it's ink cartridges refuse to dry up.
@kkarhan@Aglaia89@njudah I have a Canon MP250 printer/scanner and have yet to have a reason to replace it. And it has taken an absolute beating over the years (and has some puppy teeth marks now too). I would definitely not give it up for weird ass DRM ink.
Like when does someone need to print out a document remotely and not have a #VPN setup and noone onsite they could mail a link to the file on https://oshi.at or https://wsend.net and maybe even encrypt and decrypt it beforehand...
But maybe I just expect people to actually learn tech?
@mighty_orbot well, I've yet to see something easier than "Print from USB" that a 10 year old used Xerox can do.
Not to mention "Print from Mail" where one just enters an eMail account or literally "Print from LAN" where it constantly checks a folder for PDFs on an NFS or SMD share [aka your average NAS] and just prints that.
