@BlackAzizAnansi
That school and the district it's in better not receive a dime of federal grant money because that makes it subject to a CLEAR Title VI complaint.
That rule and enforcement of that rule is racially biased. And now they're limiting his access to an education because of it.
@BlackAzizAnansi didn’t Texas just pass the crown law? One of the only things I’ve seen the Texas lege do that’s actually good for once. How are they able to do this??
@komakino@BlackAzizAnansi Yup. They passed the CROWN law because of the same school district. The district also lost in court for an identifical act against another student.
How can they do it? Turns out the law only has effect when someone enforces it, and Abbott isn't actually very good at law and order. So, the family is going to court too.
@OldAintDead@BlackAzizAnansi They are suing (which is why it's in the news), but they aren't the first (maybe third?)
The district lost at least one similar case before Texas' CROWN law went into effect (I think it's up on appeal now). This time is likely to be much more expensive because three instances with the same profile makes a pattern and practice, and the law changes to be even more against them.
@BlackAzizAnansi you know what. I went to an alternative high school when I was a teenager in the mid 90s. Best education I ever got. Way more liberal and I learned a whole lot more about the world there than I would have institutionalized at a school with no respect for others cultural norms.
@NerdRage42 Seriously? The point is not the quality of the education. The point is the Racism. Get it now? Please don't jump into conversations about important issues with non sequiturs that demonstrate how white we all very are. (Again).
@NerdRage42 Did some subbing in a few continuation high schools around that same time. Loved it. The students and staff were super chill and a pleasure to work with. Still, the so-called adults who are mistreating this student need to be held accountable, and the student deserves some real justice.
@pixplz oh, absolutely. I hope they sue the shit out of that school. And I truly hope his alternative school has the same kind of activist minded teachers that mine did.
@Pagan_Animist@BlackAzizAnansi one of the most freeing things is learning that your abusers can no longer abuse you and you succeed and do better away from them. It kind of takes away their power that THEY lose out on us. Not the other way around.
@BlackAzizAnansi@daniel i thought preventing kids from wearing traditionally black hair styles in public school had gone to court years ago and been struck down … wtf
@BlackAzizAnansi he can come and sta here for free, we'll feed him too. There's a spare room in the basement and the High School is just down the hill.
@BlackAzizAnansi For anyone who's looking for the link, headline/image appear to be from U.S. News via the Associated Press. A slightly longer form of that article can be found directly from the Associated Press here:
@BlackAzizAnansi right talks a lot about parents rights, but only apparently when they want to ban books about gay penguins, when they are supporting their kids choice of hairstyle it suddenly "Not like that". Almost like "parents rights" is a dog whistle for their bigoted agenda...
