zeruch, There was a period in the first half of the 90s where straightahead/post-bop #jazz structures were married (successfully) to very vascular, propulsive rhythm sections, and this is no exception, from 1991:
Herbie Hancock: piano/keys
Wayne Shorter: saxophones
Stanley Clarke: bass
Omar Hakim: drums

digginjazz,
digginjazz, God Bless The Child by BS&T is a monster. The arrangement is pure genius. Killer horns, hip trumpet and sax solos. You may not have heard it in the last 40 or so years, so give it a spin. #Nowplaying #jazz #vinyl
patrickhadfield, News of the plans for the Jazz Bar make the BBC.
patrickhadfield, There is a crowdfunder to help the Jazz Bar in Edinburgh reopen.
I've supported it. The Jazz Bar is essential for jazz in Edinburgh!

patrickhadfield, The Jazz Bar is Edinburgh, which closed suddenly, is set to reopen.
Edinburgh needs the Jazz Bar! (Though I hope when they reopen they cut down on the chatter!)

digginjazz, I bought this album in 1970 while in high school, for no other reason than I was mezmorized by the cover art, and heard that Miles is hip and I should be listening to him. At the time, I didn't get it and shelved it for years. It took being exposed to much more music to understand what genius is contained on these disks. So much history and influences are amalgamated into this music. #jazz #afro #rock #freejazz #milesdavis #BitchesBrew #nowplaying #vinyl
mrcompletely, @digginjazz for me this was the album that opened up everything. A friend put it on late at a party when everyone was in a perceptive and receptive mindset and within minutes I realized I knew nothing about music at all
aaj, Profile » Marshall Allen: A Century of Joyful Noise
Marshall Allen turned 100 years old on May 25, 2024. Back in 1995, when Allen inherited the leadership of the Sun Ra Arkestra at the age of 71, you would have got pretty good odds that he would not be holding the chair nearly thirty years hence. But the cosmology of the Sun Ra Arkestra, and all who sail in her, is nothing if not strange. #jazz #sunra

bourgwick, happy 100th arrival day to the deputy marshall allen, "dep" as he was/is known inside the @SunRaUniverse arkestra. can't believe i've gotten to see him play as many times as i have (& hopefully will again soon). WKCR is playing 24 hours of marshall today to celebrate. https://www.cc-seas.columbia.edu/wkcr/story/marshall-allen-birthday-broadcast #jazz

digginjazz, Flora Purim doesn’t have an exceptional voice, but she always surrounded herself with great musicians (both American and Brazilian), and created an interesting unique sound. This is one of her best from 1974. Love the track with Carlos Santana’s screaming guitar solo. #Nowplaying #jazz #vinyl
mrcompletely, @digginjazz yeah she and Airto were an interesting pair. Butterfly Dreams is another album worth a spin or two, and I love their parts in Mickey Hart's masterpiece Dafos
iamlayer8, #l8n8music … #nowlistening to Standards by Bernie Worrell
I’ve known him from Parliament Funcadelic. But this shows how versatile he is.

iamlayer8, @mrcompletely
I have the Phantalassa CD in my collection. Looking into that right now
mrcompletely, @iamlayer8 yeah that's an interesting project too. Laswell is an interesting artist, a great bass player and producer who works in weird niches. He loves deep dub and crazy avant garde weird stuff as much as the fusion funk stuff

An often ignored classic of South African jazz, “Tete’s Big Sound” by Tete Mbambisa was released in 1976. Tete Mbambisa – "Tete's Big Sound" The album Tete’s Big Sound emerged during a golden age for local South African jazz recordings in the 1970s. allenmichie, Jazztodon artist of the week: David Murray! From @aaj: Few musicians in jazz history have proven more vigorously productive than tenor saxophonist David Murray. During the past 35 years, David has careened forward in a cool, collected, rocket-fueled streak. He has released over 150 albums under his own name. He has perfected an instantly recognizable approach to improvisation that even in its freest flights acknowledges the gravity of a tradition he honors more than most.
