Happy Independence Day, Montenegro! 🇲🇪

After a referendum for independence the previous month that crossed the required 55% threshold, Montenegro became independent of Serbia on this day in 2006.

Big brands such Lidl, Coca-Cola and L'Oréal must stop advertising on pro-Kremlin media outlets in the Balkans, European Parliament lawmakers told the companies.

Global companies get heat for financing pro-Kremlin media in and with their ad budgets.

"Many media organizations that promote pro-Kremlin disinformation often use advertising bought by reputable companies to strengthen their credibility,"

@hanse_mina That's good to know. I did not see any particular Bulgarian media outlet being called out. Wonder which ones are considered pro-russian.

@DejanTravica This is a beautiful shot and brings back memories from my childhood.
My grandparents (both Hungarians that grew up in the region) were planning on retiring there. They built a house in Palić, which kinda never really got finished. In the end, both of them were sadly no longer able to actually retire "back home".
But I spent a significant amount of time in Palić as a child and remember the park well. And the lake, the watertower, the zoo, ...
Thank you. 🙂

After 9 months of protests in the streets, after the brutally stolen elections in after it is clear why we cannot replace this mafia government and dictator Vučić.The entire Government of the Republic of Serbia is lobbying for Rio Tinto, and lithium mining. And it is wellknown that where Rio Tinto passes, it remains a wasteland like on Mars. We'd rather die in the streets by the bats of the police and para-police than let Rio Tinto poison us.

A reddit-compiled map of likely electoral fraud in , from public data gathered by the Istinomer portal. Each of the 11 000 instances is a single residence/dwelling with 20 or more voters registered at the same address. Some are pizzerias with over 100 voters registered! Pre-election polls showed ruling populist party heavily losing the capital.

It's likely that some of these are simply mistakes in the electoral records, but considering the mountain of video evidence and screenshots of elections interference, it seems unlikely to me that all of them are honest mistakes. The gym next to my parents' building has 142 people registered as voting residents there!

This is depressing!

Aleksandar #Vucic’s populist party in #Serbia claims victory in parliamentary elections.

Several #RightWing groups, incl pro-#Russia parties & #Socialists allied with Vucic.

Serbia maintains warm relations with #Putin, been a candidate for #EUMembership since 2014, but has faced allegations of steadily eroding democratic freedoms & rules.

Once Vucic consolidates power, he, #Orban, and #Erdogan can complete Putin's Wall — #Hungary, Serbia, #Turkey

Worrying. NSC Spokesman John Kirby:
"We are monitoring a large Serbian deployment along the border of Kosovo," including "unprecedented forward deployment of artillery, tanks, and service members.” “We are calling on Serbia to withdraw those forces.”....
"just by their scope, size, and presence, it’s destabilizing enough as it is. And it’s appropriately making people concerned, including us.”

@Geopolitics ...a big escalation by Serbia towards Kosovo would be just what Putin needs , also NATO would have to react I think... let's hope it's all just posturing and nothing will happen ,🙏 #Kosovo #serbia #geopolitics #NATO @geopolitics

pmroman,

@ErikJonker @Geopolitics @geopolitics
I think NATO won't be involved directly because Kosovo isn't a member and isn't recognized by several NATO and EU members, it will depend on the security guarantees given to Kosovo. However, Albania is a member of NATO so Serbia could make a fatal mistake, it's a delicate situation. I believe considering the Western Balkans for EU enlargement is an exercise of political fiction.
