@linos @becha I've had a look at at EN 1153 for 2024-06-28 in the ÖBB shop (horrible usability!). Although there is no button “I already have a ticket, I just need a reservation”, you can enter your discounts where you enter your name and a (fake) phone number. One of these discounts is Interrail Euro/global pass. The price for the sleeper car (3 females) drops from ~150 to ~85.

Apparently, couchette beds and seats are completely sold out. But you may want to check again later.

The USB-C port on my #Lenovo laptop died a few days before the end of the extended #warranty.

They replaced the motherboard without hesitation. They also put in a new display, they said the old one was flickering too much, without me even mentioning it, probably because I was used to it.

They also replaced the display case, which had a crack in it, which in my opinion is due to the weak construction (I have not dropped it or had any other impact on it).

I'm impressed by 's compression abilities when it comes to PDF files. Use case: I have 260 PDF files (each around 90 KiB), but only 60 of them are unique (scroll down for why). Not only does it compress the unique files very well, it also detects the redundancy and duplicates.

The whole archive has 148 KiB, that's less than 2 PDF files. By comparison, the best result I get with is 18 MiB (maybe I have missed some magic options).

Old and busted: More or less every school on the planet uses and teaches #Microsoft products and makes people addicted to it.

New hotness: Public universities spend money on #OpenAI #ChatGPT pro licences for their employees. Professors encourage (and might force in future) students to use that crap for their studies. Instead of actually learning stuff by solving exercises, students have to hand in their “conversations” with a proprietary LLM.

Coming to a university near you, very soon! 🙀

: If you put a in your slides and expect your students to visit some website, ALWAYS also provide a clear-text URL or hyperlink (without URL shorteners and trackers).

  1. is important.
  2. Not all of your students carry devices (a.k.a. ) all the time. Extracting a QR code from the slides and putting it through a tool like is an unnecessary step.

Damit sollte laut A-Trust die Basisfunktion der fünf Jahre nutzbar sein, und es ist weiterhin kein Smartphone und keine App notwendig. SMS-TAN und -Schlüssel können verwenden werden.

Ich werde in den nächsten Wochen von meinem Umstieg berichten und tausche mich gerne mit allen aus, die keine Blackbox-App des Innenministeriums auf ihrem Gerät haben wollen.

Ich habe jetzt die ID Austria Basic. Login etc. funktioniert exakt gleich wie bisher mit Handysignatur, und ich habe 5 Jahre Zeit, auf die Vollfunktion umzusteigen (wofür ein Behördenbesuch notwendig wird).

Nicht verunsichern lassen, wenn beim Umstieg eine Fehlermeldung kommt! Das ist eher als eine Art “application failed successfully” zu verstehen.

Danke für die Verweise aufs Tutorial von @epicenter_works. Dazu kann ich ergänzen, dass das Paket yubikey-manager-qt in Debian enthalten ist.

Noch ein Hinweis für die, die

  1. eine behördlich registrierte hatten (oder unsicher sind), und
  2. noch nicht umgestiegen sind auf , und
  3. kein Smartphone verwenden wollen:

Wenn beim Umstieg die Abfrage nach Personalausweis/Reisepass-Nummer kommt, AUF GAR KEINEN FALL Daten eingeben. Wer das macht, kommt nur noch mit App in den A-Trust-Kontomanager.

Stattdessen: Dateneingabe auf später verschieben und zunächst im Kontomanager -Schlüssel hinzufügen gemäß Anleitung.

Heute morgen gescheitert: VPN Zugang der #TUGraz neu einrichten. Mehrmals auf veraltete Anleitungen gestoßen oder in Redirect Endlosschleifen hängen geblieben.

Auch nicht geklappt hat das Einrichten einer CI auf dem Gitlab der TU Graz, weil ich feststellen musste, dass es keine Shared Runner für Studierende gibt. Ein Jammer.

@linos Normalerweise reicht im NetworkManager als Protokoll »Cisco AnyConnect or OpenConnect« und als Gateway vpn.tugraz.at einzugeben. Das OTP wird einfach als zweites Passwort eingegeben (es kann aber sein, dass das Fenster zu klein ist und man das zweite passwort-Feld nicht sieht).

Falls Du lieber einen Tunnel via Socks verwenden willst, brauchst Du ocproxy (12345 ist der Port):

/usr/sbin/openconnect --script-tun --script "ocproxy -D 12345" vpn.tugraz.at

Ohne sudo/su.

@linos Haha, genau das wollte ich eigentlich als erstes schreiben, habe mir dann aber gedacht: Nein, das hat er sicher auf dem Radar.

Das ist eine TU-Graz-Besonderheit, aber eine durchaus sinnvolle (im Gegensatz zum immer noch andauernden Geo-Blocking für MS Exchange, statt Patches einzuspielen ...).

@linos Ich habe da immer die 05 1717 angegeben.

Gibt man eine echte Nummer an, bekommt man bis vor der Abreise unzählige SMS mit Informationen wie: Zug fährt auf Bahnsteig 6 ab. 5 Minuten später: Nein, doch Bahnsteig 5. Weitere Minuten später: Doch Bachnsteig 6. Dann: Zug ist verkehrt gereiht. Dann: Doch nicht. Dann: Zug fällt auf dem gesamten Zuglauf aus. Dann: Zug fährt doch, aber ohne Wagen 263 (der ohnehin nicht existiert ...).

@TheSecondVariation Was die konkrete Umsetzung in Software betrifft, ist mir kein Free-Software-Projekt bekannt. Ein Anmeldeverfahren mit Scoring (a la CampusOnline) wäre aber eine Plugin-Idee für #Mobilizon, vorausgesetzt, es unterstützt, Informationen über User in numerischen Feldern zu speichern. Da tagge ich gleich einmal den @linos, weil das ein interessantes Projekt sein könnte.

@TheSecondVariation Welche Informationen sind über die Teilnehmenden bekannt? Wie groß ist die Fluktuation? Wie groß ist die Gruppengröße, wie groß der Andrang (Maximum, Minimum, arithm. Schnitt, Median)?

Wer soll bevorzugt werden (also z.B. Alt-Teilnehmer vor Neulingen, oder umgekehrt)?

Abhängig von den Parametern lässt sich ein Score berechnen, der den Anmeldezeitpunkt nur als Tie-Breaker verwendet (der aber bei guter Modellierung extrem selten benötigt wird). (Fortsetzung)

Die Bahnen machen es einen echt schwer.

Züge von einer gewissen Stadt in Belgien nach einer anderen gewissen Großstadt in Deutschland online bei der #DB buchen funktioniert momentan gar nicht.

Die #ÖBB lässt einen nurmehr Aufenthalte von maximal acht Stunden konfigurieren im Ticketshop und das obwohl fahrplan.oebb.at bis zu 48h akzeptiert.

@linos Ich nehme meistens Sparschiene für den ersten Teil der Reise und ein Angebot ohne Zugbindung (z.B. Länderticket in Deutschland, Standard-Fahrschein in Ungarn) für den zweiten Teil. Umgekehrt wäre es in der Tat riskant.

@linos Internationale Bahnfahrten sind leider nur was für Masochisten.

Wenn ich unbedingt fahren muss, „stückele“ ich meistens mehrere Fahrscheine, weil ein durchgehender entweder nicht buchbar oder unfassbar teuer ist.

Ach übrigens: EC 218, 219 fährt nur bis Salzburg wegen Wagenmangel bei ÖBB. Außerdem zahlreiche Großbaustellen nördlich von München (Investitionsrückstau ...). Lokführerstreiks. Unzuverlässige ÖBB-Nachtzüge, noch dazu mit elastischen Preisen (Softwarefehler, ...).

@linos Ich habe gerade gelesen, dass es eine Vereinbarung zwischen einigen europäischen Bahnen gibt, eine Weiterreise auch dann zu ermöglichen, wenn Du Fahrscheine bei verschiedenen Anbietern gebucht hast, den Anschluss aber wegen Verspätung des vorangegangenen Zuges versäumst. Die Anschluss-Fahrkarte verfällt dann nicht.

Einen einheitlichen internationalen Tarif gibt es ja seit Jahrzehnten, er ist nur eben zu hoch und auch heute teilweise nur an der Personenkassa erhältlich (und von denen gibt es immer weniger). Auch Ermäßigungen wie Railplus (ehemals 25%, nun nur noch kümmerliche 15%) und Citystar gibt es, aber sie können mit den Sparpreisen und teilweise Normalpreisen der jeweiligen Bahnen nicht mithalten.

Es wäre also ein erster Schritt, diesen Tarif kräftig zu subventionieren und die Bahngesellschaften wieder verpflichten, Fahrscheine zu diesem Tarif im Internet zu verkaufen (und zwar zu gleichen Konditionen wie am Schalter, also ohne Tracking und Personenbindung).

Entsprechend sollten die Bahnen auch Anreiz/Verpflichtung haben, ein Mindestmaß an internationalen Verbindungen anzubieten (looking at you, Croatia!).

Wäre ja ein Thema für die EU-Wahl. Hat das irgendeine Partei im Wahlprogramm?

We can't use #Overleaf, as the other contributors don't speak LaTeX.

#Etherpad is less bloated, but they also don't support auto-formatting with Markdown or something similar, so I have to use a mouse to define the paragraph style (paragraph, heading 1, 2, etc.).

Editing plain text files locally and sync them with git is not an option.

Moodle has a Wiki option, but no two collaborators can edit a page at the same times. Oh, ☎️ the 1990's are calling. They want their software limitations back.

@linos I think that Discord (“all our content is belog to us!”) has a pretty good solution. You can type Markdown and it will convert to WYSIWYG in real time; but at the same time, you can also use buttons to achieve the same effects.

The bad news is that this would probably clash with both Gender*Sternchen and Gender_Gap.

So, I guess the “just you do you and send me a finished pdf and we'll glue it together” solution is the least painful for all parties involved.

HedgeDoc looks nice, though.
