Watching “Aliens” (1986) with a first-timer.

Remember how Ebert would sometimes screen a film with an audience and if anyone yelled STOP he'd pause the film and they'd talk about it?

I’d totally do that with “Aliens” (1986).

The first part is gibberish and the second part turns disqualifying.

Just don’t ask me what I'm working on right now

Short answer: no

Longer answer: the situation would have to be incredibly specific for this to happen at this stage in my life

A better more accurate description would be “2-D artist” because while we do "composite” layers, we are also doing tons of color correction, warping, transforming, breaking apart, morphing, adding and animating stock elements, creating graphics... lots of creative choices.

The wife and I have a running list of 'movies we should show the kids' and notations for "both" or “just the older one”. We also take into account what they've liked in the past and what they say they're interested in. It's super fun to watch classic movies with them.

tvaziri,
@tvaziri@mastodon.social avatar

Yes, confirmed. Not just for screenwriters. And so many of them are wrong or misleading.

tvaziri,

What John said is true - as long as you treat "negative" feedback as “this is what we can do to make the shot better”, it helps both sides of that equation. It's never personal. (But when you're in crunch time and working long hours, we ALL get crispy and make silly mistakes. Which makes EVERYTHING harder.)

I have friends that work in many different industries.

Almost every usage of that phrase is in the context of trying to make some kind of nonsense political statement, that audiences or filmmakers are too “woke” to take risks. So, generally speaking I’d say none.

Hey, Hulu subscribers in the U.S.

Can you fire up “Predator" (1987) on Hulu? From the quality of the movie as it plays on Hulu, does that look like an HD stream, or an SD stream?

tvaziri,
@tvaziri@mastodon.social avatar

This is wild.

On Safari and Chrome on the Mac AND on Apple TV 4K, I am absolutely being served SD versions of certain movies on Hulu, like "The Fifth Element”, "Die Hard" and “Predator”. (I'm not even saying an SD stream of the HD source. I mean an old SD transfer.)

When I view a modern TV show like “Shogun" or "Fargo", they're definitely HD.

Totally confusing!
