i'm guilty of this. so is anyone who has shopped, travelled or partied out of boredom. as far as i'm concerned, there is no deep sense of meaning to find in stuff you do just to kill time. it just distracts you from thinking about it.

them: go outside, take a walk

me: i don't think you've actually tried that

them: i have

me: i don't understand what's so enjoyable about it. it looks the same as yesterday.

them: get some fresh air, walking helps you think

me: maybe a little, but then you work up a sweat and your clothes get stinky and if it's humid, they stick to your body in an icky way, and then cars threaten to kill you

them: maybe move

me: i can't - no money

them: ah

me: told ya

plants don't really offer any instant feedback, do they. they just sit there and if you do something wrong, you won't know for a while.

good audio production hits extra hard if you own a pair of HS-8 monitors

best speakers i ever owned

i'm often broke but i invested in a pair of these. i've seen them in fairly serious recording studios.

if you're recording and mixing, i'll scream like SpectreSoundStudios on YouTube when fans ask if you should invest in monitors

YES

JUST GET MONITORS

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT

if things work out, i'll have some extra money to spend this month. but i also have a lot of things to catch up on. this old overheating MacBook (but replacing that would eat up all the extra money). a new computer chair that isn't broken. a spring mattress without holes. some new clothes.

i obviously agree that innocent civilians in Gaza should not suffer.

and Israel always kills more people in Gaza than the other way around.

but

also

keep this in mind: the people of Gaza voted for a party (Hamas) whose explicit goal is to destroy all Jews.

a democratic election is what produced that.

of course the Jews are not going to like that.

Fire alarm in the condo just went off.

I'm not leaving the building. That thing goes off too often.

Wish me luck.

apparently, you can't actually trust OBS on Linux to even record a basic video properly. it just outputs a garbled video. it looked fine in the preview while i was recording it. i tried converting from MKV to MP4 using FFMPEG and it still looks garbled, so it's definitely OBS that's fucking up here. oh, and it also randomly crashed one time while i was configuring it, so it's not very stable either... 🙄

the medical sites on the Internet always say to tell or ask your doctor about stuff. they seem to think every doctor is the perfect doctor who knows their shit. most doctors are fairly useless in my experience.

a lot of the products they suggest for people with #ADHD seem a bit gimmicky.

one of the better suggestions i've seen is this big timer clock. but i mean, i can set an alarm on my phone or computer just fine...

i really miss being able to text people from my computer. the iPhone doesn't let you do that unless it's a Mac. yes, vendor lock-in, but worked just fine when i had more money. if i get more money again, i'll probably buy a Mac again. simple as that.

funny coincidence

a "sherpa" is someone who carries your bags as you climb the Himalayas

"skjerpa" (exact same sound) is a Norwegian adjective referring to a person who has their shit together or is paying attention

which is exactly the kind of attitude a sherpa needs.

"skjerpe" (verb) is synonymous to "kvasse" meaning to sharpen, as in a knife.

R&D shouldn't be a salaried position anywhere, because it's too experimental so the work output hard to quantify. but people who dedicate themselves to it should have some financial security. the same might be said of the arts.

Life's too short. Youth is over in the blink of an eye.

Some people know exactly what to do and have academic, professional and romantic success at an early age. Those popular people and those perfect couples; the prince and the princess.

Then there's the rest of us. If you belong to this group, consider yourself lucky if you get married with kids, but otherwise have a very boring life. This is the most common way of making it through safe and okay.

If you're unlucky: poverty, prison, alcoholism, suicide, traffic accident, cancer, stroke, domestic abuse, mental disorder, disability, etc.

You don't decide to end up in that last group. No one wants to be in that group. So it's luck. It's a lottery. It's not fair.

i can see why people would describe cooperatives as socialist. but...

the biggest ones in Scandinavia very much operate like businesses, including advertising and using various incentives to attract customers. you don't look at them and go "this looks socialist".

it's more like "shop with us and get cash backs and discounts"

the difference is more on the upper levels. no shareholders. the people who join the co-op are the "shareholders" and the amount you trade for (as a customer or supplier) determines your share of the profits.

it's not like you walk into the Coop grocery chain or get insurance from SpareBank1 and the flag of the Soviet union is waving there. co-ops have to be every bit as sexy and competitive as their stock-financed counterparts.
