Haven’t heard about Apple’s eye sweat band in a while.

When they announce they’re “fully committed to spatial computing” we’ll know that they will cancel it soon.

Delilah Qapik Kines Amaaq. Welcome to the world. It’s a place filled with wonder and beauty. Always look at it through the eyes of the child.

You and I, we’re going to have adventures.

It’s so funny when in 2024 people use “blah at whatevs dot com” to try to obfuscate their email address from scrapers like it’s 1995.

Like this hasn’t worked for the last 20 years and just makes it harder for people who actually need to email you.

thomasfuchs,

@stylinstainless lol yeah that’s very different

@jezebelkat I mean when you want to specifically use your real email address and hide it from web scrapers, not forms

Browsing ebay for text terminals (I'm looking for something recent and ideally built into an LCD) and I read: "Keyboard sold separately for keyboard enthusiasts"

Please excuse me, I just need to go sharpen my kitchen knives...no reason...

Firefox is adding on-device AI alt text for images.

Generally assistive technology is of course a good thing, however:

  • How accurate is it?
  • How accurate can it even be if it doesn’t know the intentions of the poster? (The exact same image can be illustrative to diametrically opposite opinions.)
  • Where does the training data come from?
  • Will it discourage authors from adding alt text?
  • Is there telemetry that could be used to invade privacy? What if that data gets sold or stolen?
thomasfuchs,
@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io avatar

@SamStrong if it’s e.g. on social media the intention is very important, the poster likely wants to convey something. Can an AI say an image is “cute” or that it “shows the cruelty of war” or even that it’s “a screenshot of an eBay listing”? Probably not.

Looking for the CD-ROM for the Veo Photo Traveler for Pocket PC, couldn’t find it online (but found a photo of the CD!)

These are drivers for a digital camera that’s attached to a Pocket PC CF card from 2002.

Anyone have this CD and can make an ISO or knows where to find it online?

(Please RT)
