I wont be at #defcon this year, not out of any bad will to the conference, but because I found Las Vegas to be quite stressful as an out transfemme in ways I did not expect. As one example: last year I ended up walking back to my room every time I needed to use a bathroom due to anxiety about which one I, a nonpassing transfemme in a skirt, fishnets, and a tanktop, should use.
I appreciate the work that the organizers have done to make the conference queer inclusive but I feel like las vegas itself isn't quite ready for people like me.
I'll try to get over it next year, but this year I don't think I can handle it.
