If you switched over to the new HoYoPlay launcher then you're saying good-bye to the old launchers that added their own start menu entries. This broke my muscle memory for opening HoYoverse games... but it's OK!

You can still keep this behavior though if you re-add'em manually by creating shortcuts that supply the proper CLI switches. To find out what those switches are, use the new launcher to create desktop shortcuts (see images).

You can then either move shortcuts those into your Start Menu Programs folder or re-create them yourself; whatever's easier for you.

A screenshot of the start menu with the search query "Star Rail". The best match is "Honkai Star Rail", mimicking the behavior of the per-game launcher setup.

@fujiwara Hope you backed up your stuff! Or if not, then hopefully you have a solution for logging in without the screen.

I didn't have a whole lot I didn't want to lose aside from my manga library, but some things like some settings for various apps were on a "nice-to-save" basis...

@kaoskuriboh Focusing on story content alone is pretty manageable with a few hours of content every update (6 weeks cadence) with mild challenge

It's only hell if you want to get engaged with end-game game modes which do offer more rewards and challenge since you'll be slaving over stats and builds for hours haha

My phone just decided that the screen should have lines coming from where it originally cracked at, and the entire screen should have a green tint to it.

Guess it is time for a new phone...

I broke my first screen in yeaaaars last year in a funny/sad fumble, but I was at least able to replace the screen myself.

Yours still seems pretty reasonable, but seeing the damage every time would not be fun...

@fujiwara I joined to largely build escape hatches out of Twitter~ (and I'm enjoying it!)

It's been successful for finding cool people to talk to but there's not a lot of overlap between the content I went to Twitter for vs. the content I get from Mastodon, unfortunately.

The problem for me is much worse with my Reddit replacement (Lemmy); most of my niche subs are too niche for Lemmy, other than straight up uhh NSFW stuff haha :neofox_blush:

@chikorita157 Maybe! I'm probably going to try to pass on being an early adopter this time since I already have a working laptop, but hopefully at least one reviewer or user will address the question of pixel response time for the new display when review units go out.

If you weren't bothered by that, then the only real benefit would be the ability to avoid fractional scaling on Linux with the new resolution.

One downside is that it does have a rounded active area, so you're losing a few pixels in the corners.

@frameworkcomputer That's super tempting, though I'm already happy with my Framework 16...!

The slow display on the Framework 13 was the main reason I had to return it in favor of the 16, but if it's 120hz with good pixel response, I might have to take a look again...

Possible minor Firefox gripe: nothing about the installation UX for Firefox Containers tells me that I need to explicit opt to sync my containers from my Mozilla Account.

You need to open its extension menu and go through the FTUX or opt for it in settings.

The novelty Lofree mouse I got from friends for my birthday is cute, though a little clunky and slippery for regular use.

It also doesn't seem to support its side-buttons on Mac or Linux when used in Bluetooth mode... (I left the dongle at home oops~)

It does work over wired though, so I'll use that for today.

Holoplus opened its closed beta test for global and I'm in! (It's basically a company-run social media platform dedicated to Hololive prod. content.)

My expectations were pretty low, but exceeded! I don't have a lot of good experiences with niche community platforms for stuff like this, but, everything is super responsive and functioning! It doesn't seem to be completely based on web views that re-layout constantly as things load in.

My test-post w/ a pic of Smol Ame & Phố got a hundred or so likes which is cool (not that I really need the attention haha)

More importantly, the ability to report, hide, and block is available (haven't tested very much; no need to so far!)

It's not Fediverse, but it's small and very friendly for now. Activity is strong, but it just opened, so we'll see if people keep posting in the days to come~

Briefly took apart my mouse to clean the mouse wheel encoder to fix the jittery scrolling for the second time.

The jitters stopped immediately, but the "tactility" of each bump didn't come back until the day after, like last time. This mouse has been going strong since 2021 and I hope it'll stay that way for a few more years too.

The only reason why I don't use KeePass XC: it lacks cloud synchronization and, having worked a lot developing applications that required to synchronise state between an offline client and a server, "just use your cloud service client to synchronize the database file" certainly doesn't fit the bill, that's a recipe for data loss.

Starting my move from Instagram and Pixelfed and not sure if I should have expected this or feel surprised, but the first hit for an "anime-related instance" is Usuzakura haha

Guess it's time to sign up and migrate off of the big pixelfed.social instance

Account migration seems either absent or broken for Pixelfed.

Usuzakuraya exposes an option for it, but that's the one I'm moving to, not from. Following the same path on pixelfed.social gives me a "Account Migration is not available on this server." message.

Got some light SteamVR apps working with the Framework 16's dGPU via the USB-C port on the back. This might get some use as a light PC VR machine!

Went to Anime Impulse's first run in Seattle! Showed up to rep Ame as per usual.

Not as community driven as Sakura-con but really enjoyed the VTuber meet and seeing Cover in attendance with the M&G and panel with the Holostars EN boys.
