@plasmawiz I swear by trackballs with a thumb ball, I need to try one with a top ball sometime. Cool setup!

@plasmawiz doesn't it kill the muscle that holds the middle finger and the ring finger up? The muscle that goes all the way to the elbow? That muscle is fine with a thumb ball for me.

peeps, how would you somehow mark or make a list of clips on the timeline that have some sort of transform (scale), stabilization and/or a specific effect applied?

I have to do a conform in Resolve from graded clips and would like to save some time, not having to check each clip for these adjustments.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@mredig thanks but I'm not a developer and I need to SAVE time, not spend it on learning how to parse XML :)

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@mredig just a list so I can quickly glance "oh, so there's stabilization here, a crop there, and a plugin applied over there, okay!"

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@mredig so I don't have to manually inspect every edit (there's hundreds and hundreds in an average episode). There aren't that many of these applied, so I don't need to automate somehow transferring the transforms and adjustments from FCPX to Resolve, I know I can import a XML from FCPX into it, but that's not what I need in this step.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@mredig I use CP religiously, maybe @latenite has already added this, I'll look around, thanks!

why.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@b3ll this ain't bad actually, I'm a tinkerer but not a developer, and something like this allowed me to do some pretty powerful things without endlessly asking around at Stack Exchange.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@dt @b3ll legit fear, yeah. It can be done well, I don't know if this particular one is.

Besides switching to LINUX (which I've tried a couple of times and failed at), how do I permanently turn off copilot and any other snooping AI "features" from Windows?

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-11-recall-ai-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@realtegan @dilmandila thing is, Windows won't get any better in regards of snooping and AI bullshit, so if you don't like that, you might as well take the leap right now. You can also dual boot, or have Windows in a virtual machine, if you need it for some things.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@realtegan @dilmandila that's one way to look at it, but you can also see it as getting more freedom. Open-source is good and actually usable now. Moves like this only make more people go to OSS.

The new app is getting even worse! After the last update, the local Music Library takes like 5 seconds after launch to even appear, and then AFTER YOU PLAY SOMETHING, IT DISAPPEARS ALTOGETHER.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@ChrisWarwick yeah, i have been following that for years and the new 2.0 is sort of ready for use

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@ChrisWarwick emphasis on "sort of". It's still very buggy and unreliable.

Oh, the joys of debugging PC hardware.

After months of random crashes under load, I swapped Windows for Ubuntu on my desktop, and it got much more stable. But if I try hard enough, it still crashes when doing GPU-intensive things, in exactly the same way that Windows did.

I spent a ton of time monitoring temps, fans, voltages as it crashed. Nothing looked weird until the GPU suddenly just stopped. Since Linux kept running, I could monitor across the "crash" boundary, but it looked fine.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@laird exactly. But nothing, as you'd expect.

Hey fellow nerds, what does do that Apple Notes doesn't? I understand not everyone is in the Apple garden but still. Notes do multi-language OCR better. I'm probably missing something. I'm asking because I see Apple nerds gush about it.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@caseyliss what does it do that Apple Notes do not? Notes do OCR as well, even multi-language.

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@alexr @dsully or Apple Notes - it does multi-language OCR as well and better. I'm probably missing something. I have yet to see PNGX actually guess those things myself.
