I love reading Wayne Hale's blog, especially for those small tasty details

There’s going to be an #alitabattleangel 2? Perhaps we are on the right timeline after all.

@triptych that makes me happy!

Sooo, PiHole running on my NAS suddenly decided that it cannot handle my laptop's traffic, because the laptop is not on the same local network. Which it is. It's on the exact same WiFi network, in the same 192.168.0.xxx space.

For now I just turned on handling non-local DNS requests in PiHole settings, I'm too tired today to go deep into the problem.

So, continuing the theme of a selfhosted, searchable photo gallery, I will stay with PhotoPrism for now.

Immich is interesting, but from what I've checked in the documentation, you need to upload photos to its database, it will not use existing photo folders, and this is a dealbreaker for me.

PhotoPrism is so far okayish for me, the people and object recognition is on a barely acceptable level, but all the other functionalities, like map or browsing are great.

What to do with old SSDs that are too small for any serious use? Turn them into pendrives!

Am trying to learn how to use the metal lathe. This is a small M6 thumb screw made from free machining steel.

@quixoticgeek so cool, I love watching machining videos <3

Now this is a beast

Fun fact, in #boinc it took this gpu 24 hours to crunch an Einstein@Home task. For comparison, my RTX2060 did in 8 minutes

stfn,
@stfn@fosstodon.org avatar

@mistersql you are correct, modern GPUs are much more powerful per dollar and per watt

Hey people, I am looking for a solution that will analyse the photos from my smartphone, guess what's on them and allow searching by thing or place. You know, something that iPhotos does on an iPhone. Any suggestions?

stfn,
@stfn@fosstodon.org avatar

@mms thanks for reminding me, I haven't checked that list in a long time

stfn,
@stfn@fosstodon.org avatar

Thank you for all your replies!

I think I will start with testing PhotoPrism and Immich

stfn,
@stfn@fosstodon.org avatar

@chewie will do!

stfn,
@stfn@fosstodon.org avatar

@nota thanks! I need to try out nextcloud one day

stfn,
@stfn@fosstodon.org avatar

@Sirs0ri Do you use Immich?

stfn,
@stfn@fosstodon.org avatar

@Sirs0ri thanks! I'm testing Photoprism right now, I have some doubts about immich that I need to resolve first

I'm setting up a new Debian homelab, I just installed Prometheus, and I got an error that my server time and desktop time differ by 87 seconds. Turn out my new server was correct, and my desktop has been running late. Somehow my desktop did not have ntpd installed.

A short thread about Barbie, drills, and #LoRaWAN. This is our basic drill with an attachment to make standard size holes in plastic. Today we decided to put the second LoRaWAN gateway up – signals from some sensors didn't get through when the gataway and the antenna lied on the dogs' favorite couch in our tiny house.

@szescstopni it looks like we went to the same case making school
