@stfn It varies, obviously, but one explanation that I've heard is that God created all the varieties of dogs, in potentia, and dog breeders are just discovering them by trying different combinations.
I reinstalled the OS on my desktop, and now I have Debian 12 Bookworm, with KDE desktop env, which is running Wayland on a NVIDIA RTX2060.
And now I learned how a bad combination it is.
It works just fine on the default opensource drivers, but I had to install the NVIDIA ones to run #BOINC. And I will probably need them for Pixinsight.
Took me a while to make it work, and now there is a lot of screen tearing.
I used to enjoy watching Everyday Astronaut videos and life feeds, but now I can't stand him, knowing how much he is simping to Elon, he even bought a wankpanzer
I've started reading about the Raspberry Pi AI kit, and about Hoarder, a self-hosted app that supports local inferencing with llama3, and again I feel the urge to go back to learning the reasonable part of AI.
I did not plan it, but now I have the best of both worlds at the same time. I use an external keyboard, and I have my laptop opened, so on the keyboard the F keys work as F keys, and on the laptop keyboard, they work as media keys. So I can use either depending on what I want
@stfn Every time I see miles-long trains of coal rolling through here, it makes me grumpy.
Practically ANYTHING is better than burning coal today. Even if that train isn't for a coal-fired plant around here, it's still being burnt and doesn't need to be.
I just finished reading @baldur post about learning HTML, and it made me want to go back to the frontend part of the web, and start again from the basics, from HTML and simple CSS. For much too long I've been working on the Web only as a bunch of JSON sharing APIs
Mastodon's (at least I think it's Mastodon's?) option to mute retoots from an account is a life changer. I feel there is too much traffic on my timeline lately, but I don't want to unfollow people, so muting retoots from some accounts will be a good first step to calm things down
@stfn I like this feature. I wish it was easier to filter future occurrences of certain words from the timeline interface though, rather than going into the unwieldy settings menu
