If I daily post an "architecture/programming" video on YouTube, speak in an obnoxious and annoying voice, read scripts poorly, and generally utter nonsense, would I also attract 500,000 subscribers? Do those "influencers" "earn" money doing that?

But what if I offered value?

@VaughnVernon I think you should provide content, if you like to do it and in a way you like to do it. There is an audience for all kinds of „styles“. There are certainly a lot of people that are annoyed by what what you discribed (I would) and love to see a more down to earth way. However, if your first goal is to earn money, this could be a frustrating experience. Popular YouTube channels have been built up over years with only few subscribers until they got traction by persistence and luck.

@VaughnVernon Then I wouldn’t do it. I don’t know who you meant with „everyone wants you to provide free content“ but you asked specifically about YouTube. And I think YouTube is not the place you can go and plan to make money out of it. But I am not a YouTuber. Listen to @ewolff . I for my part put free posts on my humble little blog, just because I like to do it. There is no way I plan to monetize it and I am happy about everyone I helped. But I can afford doing that due to my 9-5 job.

@frankel I don’t really get the backend use case. Why would anyone transpile rust to WASM to run it on a V8 instead of writing the code in Rust or any performant language and run it directly in the first place? Is when using node but still want performant libs?

@frankel yeah, probably something like that! When I first heard about WASM I thought “thank god, I don’t have to use JS anymore”, but that assumption was also wrong and is now partly a non issue due to typescript. I wonder if there will be any “main stream” usage for WASM as it seems to be still a niche thing…

Hi, was wondering why the action buttons sometimes do not work.

I think the problem is, that only the icon but not the number is clickable area.

In that example where the boost count is pretty big, if you tap on the center, nothing happens. You have to tap on the boost icon.

Would be nice if this could be changed!

@ivory Hi, one question, I have enabled all notification settings, both in the app as well as in iOS settings but I never get OS notifications. I have to open the app to see that a got a mention or fav. Any idea how to fix that?

Ok, so I am waiting for the computation result for day 05, part 2 of since 20min on my M1… Not done yet. I guess I need to work a bit on the efficiency tomorrow ^^

I knew that the seed ranges were huge but remember, don't do premature optimisation when not necessary. ☝️

always succeeds in surprising me. It has a built-in tester that allows testing and changing the expression directly in your code, dealing with all the nasty escaping that is required in Java. It even highlights matching groups. 💚

@ivory I was trying to open the post attachment (see linked post) but it was showing a blank grey box. I think it’s an mp3. Opening it in the browser works. Is that file type not supported in Ivory or is this a bug?

I'm doing some deep-thinking about my game. I love so much about it, but it's overscoped for a small team. Turns out building an open world RPG is a lot of work. Who would have thought! Anyway, I have some ideas to downscope without losing what I like about the game. I'll work on those over the next two weeks.

P.S. Maybe I should make a frantic action game called Overscoped where you have to hack your beloved project to death to release it.

Kann ich für Website-Besucher den Text in einer großen Menge an Bildern suchbar machen?

Keine Zeit für Transkriptionen, Alt-Texte, manuelle Bearbeitungen etc. Dauernd kommen neue Bilder dazu und alles soll ohne weitere Arbeit suchbar sein.

Alternativ geht auch Upload der Bilder bei einem Online-Dienst, aber niemand soll sich irgendwo anmelden oder etwas Kompliziertes machen müssen. Text suchen, Bilder mit gesuchtem Text angezeigt bekommen, fertig.

Im Jahr 2023 muss das doch möglich sein.

@islieb @beowulf @rigo naja, also du kannst eine Google-gebrandete Suchbox auf deiner Seite einbinden. Dann wird Google genutzt um auf deiner Seite zu suchen und dann auch nur auf Pages von dir zu verlinken. Ist ein bisschen ugly vielleicht, aber wenn Google eh schon alles von dir hat und es auch schon funktioniert, warum dann nicht?

I asked Google Bard what the Dinky programming language is? It correctly stated I created it then it went on that it was used in the LucasArts adventure games (clearly confusing it with SCUMM) and then said Grim Fandago was written in Dinky. It wasn't even written in SCUMM. Someone that didn't know the correct answer would be horribly mislead.
