So, have a ticketing system and a "manage tickets" on their portal.

You can raise a ticket, good.
You can "reply" to a ticket, good.

But when they reply to you, it is email and does not show on the portal. Hmmm

And when you use the "reply" on their portal, they don't even see that!!! Hmmm

Apparently "Regrettably, the feature is currently in the deployment stage and will be available in the upcoming milestone."

Wow, just wow. I think working ticketing may be the first thing I did...

Grrrr... Reply is

"Our Technical team checked on your query and found that sit-token.otshub.totsco.co.uk will not work with *.totsco.co.uk cert."

No suggestion that they are actually going to fix it though?!?!?

Firefox is adding on-device AI alt text for images.

Generally assistive technology is of course a good thing, however:

  • How accurate is it?
  • How accurate can it even be if it doesn’t know the intentions of the poster? (The exact same image can be illustrative to diametrically opposite opinions.)
  • Where does the training data come from?
  • Will it discourage authors from adding alt text?
  • Is there telemetry that could be used to invade privacy? What if that data gets sold or stolen?
revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@thomasfuchs one irony is if an image contains text the AI can usually read it. But if the body text of a post has used Unicode to make bold or serif, or some such, a lot of screen readers seem unable to read “what it looks like to a sighted person”. Some simple AI there may be sane!

Was it always the case that memorial day was commemorated by discount products? Like, if I weren't so used to it, it'd seem really weird, no? Do all countries do this?

@ZachWeinersmith Do all countries do "memorial day"? No.

This is fun. Monday was a tad cloudy. We net imported 8.63kWh. But because of time of day, that cost us -22p.

Wouldn't Quark's holo suites have to be much bigger to allow a baseball game. I mean I see how it works for one person in there - moving the environment around the person, but getting a whole baseball team, or indeed two, and spectators, has to be a challenge!

I think the export tool has changed how it sends parts co-ordinates to the export for . Driving me round the bend.

I think most people want to be good, and will be - unless under much pressure.

Atheists are good because it is the right thing to do. They don't want to "sin".

Theists may want to be good, but they also have some system of ultimate power to punish/reward them, so forcing them to be good. They seem insecure in their desire to be good without a carrot/stick.

But some theists also create a "get of out jail" system of "ask for forgiveness", which means they can be "bad" and "sin" and that is OK!

Just spotted, ask “is your access provider listed?”

Err which one? We use, for various services, at least six! (Ok maybe five as I think BTW and TT both come in as Openreach).

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

Just to add, I have been talking to a couple of very small telcos, even “business only” telcos.

Some totally unaware. They have ADR though as some business customers are small.

Well it looks like applies to small business (<=10 people) like ADR.

Now if they only use one access provider, even though they have to sign up, they may be able to have that access provider handle TOTSO for them.

If they use more than one, that ain’t going to work, AFAIK.

Encourages competition, not!

This bloody one touch switching stuff has taken me nearly a week now, annoying. But working out how it will impact the ordering process. Essentially it makes it worse! More steps, more info to provide. All to save someone ceasing some other type of service by themselves. But getting there.

What worries me is the ease of “slamming” and I gather we won’t be able to stop slamming from losing side any more, which is worrying.

Biffa taking the piss now.

They can no longer do a simple, unrestricted, general waste collection in Wales, as welsh law means even businesses have to "separate waste" now.

I took that as a termination of the service. We contacted well in advance and arranged last collection 4th April.

Not only have they kept invoicing, thrice, and charging, they are charging for bin and collections they are not making, and increased the price?!?!

So I have told them I'm charging them storage now.

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

I was way more chilled, but one invoice and DD, hmm, two invoices, hmm, now three fucking invoices and increase the price from £129 to £162 a month when not actually collecting any refuse at all.

Sorry, they have pushed too far now.

DD reclaim.

DD cancel.

Letter advising storage cost, signed for.

I tried to be nice, really, but this is pushing my buttons now.

revk,
@revk@toot.me.uk avatar

@Ryanteck We said all along that they are terminating the service, not us. Yes, a change of law made that happen, but it was not us terminating.
