You can abbreviate “Republicans are tough on crime” to “Republicans are crime”.

@ghorwood Someone is trying to sell one of my old zines from 30 years ago for $27.50... I used to sell them for like $1 or so. (There's even a 50 cent sticker on it.)

Someone suggested that AI will be helpful in preventing people from getting angry in traffic.

Bruv, you need to work on your own reactions and emotions. I don't get angry in traffic because it's not worth it. It serves me no purpose.

Sometimes you just need to look inside yourself to improve, not look for technology to solve all of your personal issues.

How do you spell the color which is sort of between black and white on the tonal spectrum?

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@deshipu Ohh, I was wondering about location/region in respect to the choice as well.

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@zachnfine Maybe my issue is that I even though I currently live in the US I tend to use so many UK terms & phrases that I got it mixed up.

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@gary_bbgames Wait... expand upon that please! How does being a programmer cause that?

@zachnfine Wow. :blobcatcoffee:

A critique of my long-time favorite maker publication blogs/sites…
Yes, it’s a thread. 🧵

One of my favorite things about @hackaday is that it has a page with all the blog posts and you can scroll through them and read (most) of them. Image, Title, Post, Repeat. It may be “old school” but I like it. I think it makes sense, and it’s a publication that puts a lot out there. It’s great for finding links to project that explain things in more detail.

Next @adafruit blog, I wish it worked like Hackaday, a page w/posts, but it’s a page with giant images (cropped) with a title and a link, and you can’t really scroll through the posts, just the headlines which you can click on for the full post. They also tend to get a little wild with hashtags in the post titles. Overall it’s a great mix of promoting their own products and linking to other cool things they find. But honestly? Too many clicks, so I tend to prefer reading it in an aggregator.

And then there is @makemagazine (And disclaimer, I have/had friends there, and have posted a few things there years ago.) So yeah, I love Make but I can't stand the design or how the site functions. Not a fan of the “endless scroll of other articles out of order” or the ad. I get it, they got bills to pay, but it’s painful to use… and, they don’t publish full posts in the RSS feed, so reading in an aggregator isn’t really an option. I still visit, but… not as often, which makes me sad.

Anyway, those are the big three I tend to think of, visit, remember, still read all the time. Let me know what you think!

Is there someone out there who is like "Hey, I have $1,800 I want to spend on a phone that can fold in half."?

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@h_thoreson Hmmm, how does the folding aspect assist in preventing others from seeing your messages?

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@fast_code_r_us I tend to go as long as I can between replacing mine and then get something closer to the lower end model.

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@jimfl "If you try hard enough, any phone is foldable!" 😂

The year is 2028!

Twitter has been dead since 2025. Bluesky is huge, and has taken it's place...

And Jack Dorsey has just sold Bluesky to Elon Musk.

In the old days of microcontrollers (when I just used Arduino boards) I could search for code and find it.

Now using RP2040 boards I need to search for code but it might be in MicroPython, or CircuitPython, or C or "Arduino" code, as it were...

And bah! I like more choices but sometimes that means things take a lot more time to figure out or find.

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@axwax I'm pretty firmly in the Philhower arduino-pico camp, so solutions in the other "languages" tend to be somewhat useless for me most of the time...

A friend of mine once wiped and reinstalled his entire system one day (his only computer) and I was like "Wait... what about all your files? Do you have a full backup?"

And he was like "No, it's fine. I'll just make a new version of whatever I need."

And I was gobsmacked. I have files that are over 30 years old. (Backed up in multiple places!)

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@indrora Maybe I’m different because I’m constantly creating things and building upon those things… be it code or design files. I’ve also done work for clients over the past 25 years, so I keep most of those files around.

As I sit at this train station bar, I find myself thinking:

  • I need to see more of Scotland
  • I need to see more of Northern Ireland
  • The Irish people are absolutely lovely
  • I would pretty easily live here if I could
rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@joe Cheers! Scotland really is awesome. We were hoping to do Ireland and Wales this year, but opted to just focus on Wales... We may do Ireland next year.

(And there is so much I hate about living in the US on a daily basis, it's great to get out for a while.)
