54 years ago this week my wife and I met on a univ campus quad. She was throwing a frisbee with a couple friends, my brother and I insinuated ourselves into their game to show them how to throw it better. Sun went down, she and I went back to her dorm room. We talked all night (honest, that’s all.) At one point she got up and put a photo of her boyfriend in a dresser drawer. Finally we went out to see the sunrise in the morning. We married 4 yrs later. Must be doin something right.
I’ve occasionally wondered if there was anything that could happen that would tempt me to drink again after 36+ years sobriety. Maybe if there were any booze in the house I might take a sip, but I’ll just chew on this gummy instead.
I’m bummed. I wanted to work as an elections judge for the Colorado primary election next month, but the assignment they offered is just not workable for me. It would require working a fairly demanding job for 8 hours on Monday, then 14 hours on Tuesday, and then 8 hours again on Wednesday. I’m 74. Maybe 20, or even 10 years ago, I could’ve done it, but I can’t in good conscience commit to being 100% for all those hours, and 100% is the minimum requirement for something this important. ☹️
An interesting side note to this is, the title for the position is Removal Judge, which seems to me to be a deliberate trigger for the MAGA conspiracy aficionados.
The job actually involves bipartisan teams
Verifying ballot envelope counts
Operating equipment that opens envelopes
Separating ballots from ballot envelopes
Preparing ballots for tabulation
(Every ballot is in its own envelope, even if somebody votes in person it goes in an envelope.)
