What am I working on? Well, it's still pretty early days (and I've been project hopping a lot this year) but I've been messing with a PC port of my ZX Spectrum game Jack Dragon .. bit wary of showing this because of my dodgy pixel art skills, but hey there it is I need to put this stuff out there, right? 🤪 #IndieDev #JackDragon

@puttycad Aw thanks mate! Aiming for Rainbow Islands vibes, using the NES palette to keep it proper retro like! I have no idea what I’m doing, but it seems to be working so I’ll keep going lol

Ordered a new cpu cooler (liquid cooled two fan radiator jobby) for when I transfer my system into the new case. I'm not enjoying this spending money upgrading thing, but it'll be nice to eventually have a PC that doesn't make the room smell like burning components whenever I work in VR! 🔥 👀

It’s pretty weird that to submit a plugin to the UE marketplace, you can’t upload a file to them, you have to host it somewhere eg Dropbox and give them a link. 🤔❓

Maybe it’s to protect against spammy uploads but until something / someone there downloads it, how do they know anyway?

@sinbad That is weird. I think so, anyway. You'd think that'd be worse for malicious files etc., wouldn't you? Hope they have good virus/trojan protection on their end.

One thing I've learned about having two kids go through the school system in Canada is that the school boards don't care about kids or their education. Schoolboards are mostly made up of self-serving asshats enjoying fat salaries who only got into the schoolboard because they like money and they're hired to be amongst friends - all the other overpaid asshats already on the board. A massive money wasting hoard of clueless chucklefucks. It's no wonder the schools are fucked.

I got two notifications of online mentions about my VR game ‘Axe Throw VR’ today. The first said ‘I hated every minute of it. Throwing wasn’t intuitive. Frustrating!’ and the second one said it had ‘..my favourite throw feel in any videogame… really realistic and satisfying’ 🤣 total polar opposites! I choose to agree with the nice one 👍

@puttycad So true! I used to worry way too much about this stuff and I’ve messed up a few games trying to fix them after launch in a panic after getting bad feedback and thinking I’d messed it up. These days I know I have to stick to my original plan/vision and trust my instincts on what I’ve made. I think creatively we have to be stubborn on some stuff.

@Longplay_Games When that happens, whisky is my go to 🤪 nah you have to release it anyway.. especially if you’ve been working on it a long time. You will bring something different to it. Focus on yours, not theirs. Maybe allow yourself a day or two to get mad about it, then push it behind you and focus on making your game happen 😎

Watching The Thing (80s/John Carpenter’s) in the dark with headphones on because everyone else is asleep. Obvs it’s a legendary horror film, but I’ve never watched it with headphones on before and I’m really appreciating the awesome sound and music. It’s nice to get a totally new perspective on a film I’ve seen a load of times over the years!

I just spent what I feel is way too much money on a new case for my PC. It’s my work PC and the old case only has room for 2 fans. When the PC is under load it’s getting stupid hot in there (running an RTX 2080). Especially doing VR stuff in the editor, it smells burny and I couldn’t afford to replace the whole computer if I end up toasting the CPU or whatevs. I just hope the new case sorts the cooling out properly. I intend to put in at least 4 fans!

Games are far too hard to make 😔

Shelving another project because there’s no prospect of it getting to the finish line. Probably should have done it ages ago, but we’ve put so much effort into it and it kept feeling like we were just about to hit a stride that would make the difference. Instead it’s got to go in the “actually needs way more funding than we’re ever likely to have” pile.

Time for something much simpler, or at least with more reusable parts. Lessons were learned I guess

@sinbad Aw mate sorry .. when it’s either compromise the game/vision beyond what you’d be happy with, or move on and make something else, neither are ever gonna be good options are they? Hope the right project finds you soon mate.
