The word extremely does some heavy lifting here, but it is indeed a great achievement and a Very Good Thing.

Wow, do take the time to read this. It's well written. Here's a quote;

"The financial sector deals in the language of risk, but it seeks out situations in which profitability is effectively guaranteed, a certain level of return baked in.

Sectors with minimal competition or which the state cannot abandon altogether fit the bill perfectly.

The derogatory term for this is ‘rent-seeking’, which is supposed to be an unusual and illegitimate mode of profit, but the disquieting implication of Christophers’s recent work is that this is simply how capitalism – at least in its current guise – likes to work."

Nice to see Glamorous Tolkit getting some traction. It's a really nice Smalltalk notebook with tools to explore, integrate with and underysand other languages.

@wyri Same here, she is really nice but running another clock on managing the conversation.

Thinking of a description of Gene Kelly - she did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels.

I have in mind to build something on top of this, where each raft group represents a block storage of a simpler but larger database.

I'm aiming for a kind of deranged firebase-in-a-can sort of thing. Eventually.

@Liquidream This is not a one-night movie, it's a one-month movie. Give that half a year and sort of give up movie. But it's good, yes. I think.

OK, now I get it. Slowly, but I get it.

The reason we loved Google Reader was because it not only was a great way to organize RSS feeds, but that it included our existing gmail contacts.

So it became easy to send an article to a friend or to subscribe to a friends feed just as if it was another feed. Then star or thumbs up or whatever any of their article (or share to our own feed, of course).

That was basically it., and it was wonderful, and Google did expressly not at all understand what was going on, and that this was the budding social network they had been looking for for so long and tried to recreate on different wrong top-down ways.

So.

Where can I help adding this to Mastodon faster?

@amoroso Hi Paolo, it looks like the ldesdl SDL version of the Maiko VM supports scaling!

I compiled the sdl version of maiko and edited the startup scripts to use that (and use the '-pixelscale' flag I found i main.c);

https://github.com/Interlisp/medley/issues/671

psvensson,
@psvensson@techhub.social avatar

@amoroso I'm glad that I can see the UI properly.

Yes, running on SDL would in theory enable to possibility to run things that make use of the GPU, like Kons-9 or the new trial engine.

Would you like me to attempt a PR of some sort for the SDL startup thing? In that case, how would you like me to go about it?

It seems the sdl version isn't built by default.

But it's not readily apparent how to / if you can change scaling or font sizes.

@amoroso I must admit to not have read the manual properly first, but when I do that in the Exec (XCL) window I get ;

Undefined car of form

psvensson,
@psvensson@techhub.social avatar

@amoroso Thank you, now it is easier to see (in that XCL window).

I respect all the hard work you've done to come this far. I suspect there is no easy way at the moment to switch keyboard to a non-US one is there?

I'm using a Swedish one, for example, but I make do.
