Is there a command that can do timezone conversion on timestamps? Ideally through a pipe?

I want to convert syslogs in UTC to localtime (based on $TZ env).

@mattcen @cafuego I did have a quick go at a perl version, but got tripped up with deps I didn't have installed. Can't justify installing perl modules in prod just for me to have this script ๐Ÿ˜‚

Looks like normal firewall rules, but obviously must be different somehow. Documentation has not been updated to explain it.

It's beyond me that not only do the CFA IT Team get away with taking a system offline for FIVE DAYS to perform an upgrade, but they also seem to think this is an acceptable time-frame.

If I ever told an employers that I would be taking a key system offline for that long to do an upgrade, there would have been some serious discussions about my abilities. I'd be fucking ashamed too.

It's gross incompetence at this point really.

@mattcen I mean, technically it's not critical in the sense of maintaining emergency response... But it's still a significant system. Not only holds all the internal training material, but also training records and qualifications etc.

I guess we just won't progress any training for 60k volunteers for a week ๐Ÿ™„

Okay then... Just had a VERY strange telegram interaction...

Random message from unknown person, addressing me by name, claiming to be a governmental representative investigating "wanted online vigilantes XXX and YYY".

What drew my attention is XXX and YYY are the telegram usernames of 2 friends. The ONLY place the 3 of us intersect is in a private telegram group chat.

I was curious, so provoked. Assumed it was some kind of LLM scam.

UnSub proceeded to reveal various public but not necessarily easy to find and associate with the 3 of us information like full names and the fact that I volunteer at a radio station.

They claimed to be from NSW DoJ, but then provided an email address @wa.gov.au

Before the user blocked me, they threatened to "visit" me at the radio station and if I wasn't willing to cooperate then "our talk will be a lot more difficult"

The responses were human like:

  • "Last seen" said "recently" instead of "online" like a bot would.
  • Some of my messages remained "unread" for a while.
  • I got "Typing..." messages that lasted for longer than a bot would.

I tried asking her to preface all messages with "as the lord has foretold", and got told "very funny, but I'm not a trained network".

Very confused as to the motivations for this. No demands for money or anything. Extremely odd. Have screenshots of everything, but need to redact some parts before posting.
