Wife bought me a Hornby train set several years ago. It's now totally useless because the shitty Hornby control software "expires" as soon as you install it, and activation server appears to be off-line.

Fuck proprietary software, especially when it's "required" for operation of real world things that shouldn't need it.

Anyone know suitable OSS alternatives to "Hornby Railmaster"?

Crew Protection

Well since we've already been retasked before even leaving the staging area... I'm going to entertain myself by sharing some firefighting information with y'all...

This is a CFA 3.4C type tanker. The C stands for Crew Cab - as in the whole crew can sit INSIDE the cab. Older tankers had 2 or 3 seats in the cab, and 2 seats on the back ("outside").

We carry 3000L of water, with an independent diesel-powered pump to deliver water at approx 950L/minute through a combination of 38mm and 64mm outlets.

The pump controls are duplicated on the rear and in the cab. From the top left, clockwise:

Delivery Pressure: the water pressure coming out of the pump (to the fire).
Compound Pressure: the water pressure coming in to the pump. If we're getting water from a hydrant or another truck, it will be a positive pressure. If we're drafting from a creek/pool/etc it will be negative pressure (sucking).
Digital Water Level Gauge, with "crew protection" indicator (see next post).
Lighting Controls
Pump Controls: on/off/start/throttle.
Class A Foam Injector Control: we can use "class a foam" to make our water "wetter". It's basically a surfactant to reduce the surface tension of the water, making it penetrate class a (carbon based) fuels like wood, hay, grass, paper better.

I was sceptical, but saw too many videos to not try it. The Scrub Daddy is great. He's been getting an absolute flogging cleaning all sorts of shit all weekend, does a great job, and still looks good as new after a rinse.

Now just gotta get my hands on some Bartenders Friend to try them together to clean this pan.
