I'm a blind IT Accessibility professional with a chemical engineering degree. I’m naturally curious and fervently determined. I enjoy conversation of all types, whether on the internet, in real life, or via amateur radio. I'm into reading, playing piano, and listening to weird but beautiful instrumental music. I also enjoy experiencing new things, and look forward to meeting folks and exchanging ideas and learning from those that have a different perspective than me.

This is an honest to goodness it outage message. “Intermittent network and login issues due to intermittent network issues.” In other words welcome to Monday.

Just got an email from work. I don't think I'm in trouble--I generally just get along to get along--but I'm gonna have to answer questions about some kind of shadowy "concern". This stresses me out. All I can do, and all I will do is to speak the truth and be fair to my co-workers and myself, but damn I didn't need this before Christmas. The guy doing the investigation is super nice and he tried to make me feel better about things, but I'm still scared, cause the unknown is scary sometimes.

Everyone, what's the NVDA command and/or addon that can help me determine what tab level I'm on? I'm editing notes within a markdown file and I need to, similarly to Python), line up my tabs. I can see some of this in a braille display but wondered if this could be done via speech and how.

Oh cool. Wal mart says my Hershey’s and Reese’s ass is on its way.

I’m trying to learn VsCode for the purposes of setting up a statically generated webpage. I’m not familiar with the system at all, and it may actually involve some programming, but I’m wondering if you guys can point me to the correct email list for questions like this. As an example, when I open.the yaml config file, I don’t see any of the configuration data, but I see some kind of workspace configuration dialogue with several buttons in it. Any tips would be appreciated.

Only thing I can see that is problematic re: the bbslink stuff is that game options are set by the sysop or bbslink. I also don't know how many people playover there--right now, I'm sure that there's more people playing LORD etc than I have pre-launch. I do plan on joining an interlord league or two which should be cool for ya, and installing some mods/IGMS for lord. The bbslink thing is a cool idea.

Friends, don't let your friends backup your fstab table, and then restore it onto a new formatted filesystem. Bad things can and will happen. Excluded that file in all backups. BFlurpsy

jfayre, to Synology

For any #Synology users. I want to back up my data to Backblaze B2 cloud. Hyperbackup is an accessibility mess, especially when choosing folders to back up. I've heard good things about Restic, but not sure how to set that up on Synology. Does anyone have any suggestions for something that works reliably and is accessible? Command line is ok.

ner,

@alpuzz @jfayre @BorrisInABox Happy to help you out Al in setting it up and teaching yo uhow it works. Synology is cool, especially if you have btrfs because it'll allow you to take a read only snapshot of your disk instantly, and then I run the snapshot from the readonly thing. That way if there are changes happening, then it won't cause any problems. Then once I'm done backing up, I juts remove the btrfs snapshot.

ner,

@bmoore123 @jfayre @alpuzz @BorrisInABox Hey guys. I will type a long post explaining how all this works once I rest my arm. Expect links and some of my experiences. Still working on a blog so this’ll have to do for now. Should be later this evening. Must rebuild apps on server so will send it all later this evening.

ner,

@bmoore123 @jfayre @alpuzz @BorrisInABox to go over exact commands that I use / give examples. just let me know and it'd be best to email it or put in dropbox or something. Needless to say, there are ways to enter your password in via automation, and do all the things you need to do if you wanna use cron.
Questions? Happy to help.

ner,

@bmoore123 @jfayre @alpuzz @BorrisInABox you also don't have to rstic often. Technically, really, you could do filesystem backups via btrfs snapshots, but I'd rather just compress it. If it doesn't change often, just don't snapshot it as often. Easy peasey.
Also sorry about thread, I couldn't figure out how to do auto thread when I replied.

ner,

@BorrisInABox @bmoore123 @jfayre @alpuzz Been trying to do it, sometimes it fails though

ner,

@bmoore123 @BorrisInABox @jfayre @alpuzz Do you only have two drives? Can you do a raid with redundancy

ner, to random

Was browsing my restic mounted snapshots, as you do, when you can't sleep. Man, this is one heck of a powerful backup tool. App mounts onto the linux subsystem with directories based on hosts in the repository, and time. Want to copy your /etc/passwd from a week ago, no problem. Find the host and date you're interestd in and copy it right from there. Easy peasy

ner, to random

It's absolutely bonkers how many ssh clients try to get into this box I'm working on. It's a wild wild world out there man.

I have access to a way to make windows work on a virtual server. If I can get it to work, is it as simple as running the box, and then using remote desktop to get into it and then launching, or is there something that I can do that is not very hard to start speaking when I connect

ner,

@ai6yr I will definitely have to let you know how it goes for me. From what I understand you can enable Voice support using a Windows, MSC, but I’m not quite sure if this would actually work for you because you would have to enable microphone or line input, and Line output as well. I’ll have to look into that, with speech output, you need to have similar sound support that you would require for something like a remote radio node

ner,

@jscholes So would I need to use a custom iso to get an unattended install to fire, then remote in? I could run a portable nvda version to get it to connect to nvda remote but getting to that point in the workflow is fuzzy in my mind. Sorry if I’m asking stupid questions.

ner,

@jscholes Very interesting. I’m not sure what’s in the vultur windows or core windows iso template. I’ll have to check. Had no idea it was included in some installs.

ner,

@jscholes I can ssh into said shell. Should be able to cifs or ssh copy a portable copy over, then run it. I’ll have to see if I can get it to stay resident when I run it. I’m so used to using Lennox remotely, Running windows kind of breaks my brain.

ner,

@jscholes Definitely a good call. I am pretty sure that I will be able to remote desktop into it and I know that I can also SSH. Being able to pay for a server by the hour will be kind of nice because if it all breaks or just doesn’t work at all, I can just destroy the server with the touch of a button. So much power lol.

ner,

@FreakyFwoof @jscholes Does it use your server or can yo specify a remote server to use?

ner, to random

If I've missed following you on mastodon, ping me. I know I'm missing some cool folks.

Wow, weather channel says that daylight savings ends tomorrow. Weather freaking channel. They lose credibility every day
