Ideally, interact before doing a follow request, or it might get ahem lost.

Mostly interested in cats. Also, good coffee☕, garlic, cats, nature, European paganism, IT (but not those new-fangled hypes; I like my Korn Shell, Assembly, used to like C; I run VMs, not (never!) containers; I hate the way people try to force systemd upon other people and avoid it and other plagues), garlic, Open Source, cats, music (baroque was the peak of all music, it went downhill from there: Beethoven and Mozart were the beginning of that; love John Rutter’s though, and Nightwish/Tarja…), garlic, cats, good coffee, books, good fanfiction… oh, and, did I mention? Cats! I also dare to sing in choirs and dabble a bit in #TeamRecorder and produce Free Sheet Music, and I go geocaching, opencaching, terracaching, … and occasionally play Munzee. I use jupp, a WordStar-like editor and actually prefer https://mbsd.evolvis.org/man1/ed over both vi and emacs (shudder…).
Dogs, systemd advocates and SJWs are not welcome. I don’t come here for deep social discussions or something, so don’t bother me with these. Nor with shudder… politics. And I’ll refuse follows from people who endorse ML/LLM (so-called “AI”) and/or content output by them, since the latter is almost always illegal.

My feed will include RSS posts from other activity feeds of mine (posted via daily cronjob, not in real time, so their post timestamp is irrelevant) as well as boosts and no CWs. Boosts are not my own content and belong to the original poster. I often RT or boost posts I do not understand, e.g. in foreign languages, just because the picture is nice or something. And only one of my clients allows me to set the posting language, unfortunately.

I run my own single-user plus bots (so far, but I might admit personal acquaintances if they really want) instance of GtS so some tech trouble may be expected. No custom “emoji” (really, colon-magic-strings, which I loathed on other platforms already; they should call them stickers, to not be confused with proper Emoji, which are bad enough by themselves…), but longer posts and Markdown formatting. (I hate Markdown, but it’s better than no formatting, I suppose?)

I’m personnel to Čara🐈‍⬛ (a rescue cat, FIP carrier and FIV+ but she’s so lovely). Black cats (even with white nose, socks and bikini) are the best! We also rescued Malik🐈‍⬛ from the streets in mid-January 2024, he’d been out and fed by locals for about 14–16 months after about 5–7 months of family life, and we hope we can give him a good life and maybe Čara🐈‍⬛ a “little” brother (who’s two times her size). He’s now staying with us indefinitely as well.

Liebes Fediversum,

OpenSSH just lost a number more shared library dependencies in #Debian thanks to tcp-wrappers disabling netgroups support. In total, relative to bullseye:

  • libdl.so.2
  • libgcrypt.so.20
  • libgpg-error.so.0
  • liblz4.so.1
  • liblzma.so.5
  • libnsl.so.2
  • libpthread.so.0
  • librt.so.1
  • libsystemd.so.0
  • libtirpc.so.3
  • libutil.so.1
  • libzstd.so.1

I’d be favouring dropping the Kerberos thing into separate binaries though…

I was considering replying to this comment on the “please update xz package” bugreport earlier with that the discussion is not irrelevant and that it’s the maintainer’s responsibility on new upgrades to check for new legal issues and “other hidden gems”.

I didn’t because I didn’t want to bother going in with an annoyed self-righteous “user”.

Now it turns out all three of the involved ones were “string + number @ freemailer” #JiaT75 sockpuppets, so it’s probably okay I didn’t bother.

Not that I blame Sebastian — it was very well hidden, and even my usual diffing between old and new version would not have found it.

I do take away from this to also check the diff between VCS repo at the time of the release and release tarball. Perhaps also between branch and tag if they, like Apache Tomcat, introduce extra commits there.

One garden, two cats.

Although Malik🐈‍⬛ (almost 2) looks more like he’s under cover as easter bunny (he’s still very new to and very much not liking the harness) while Čara🐈‍⬛ (almost 8) explores as usual. #FediCats

Hi @ColinTheMathmo

I just encountered #Chartodon in a thread, and I’m a bit surprised at a tool that copies out toots from Fedi into a different medium.

How does it deal with deletions (and, I suppose, edits if the sending instance of a commentor supports them)?

Posts of which visibilties does it include?

What is the retention time of the exported images?

How is the access control of the exported images?

Is there a way to opt out of one’s posts being shown?

Why is the operator not mentioned in the bot’s Fedi profile, let alone policies like the above?

Thanks in advance!

Heh.

Regarding Rust, it is only guaranteed to work on x86_64 and Aarch64. Other platforms are a roll of the dice. See https://doc.rust-lang.org/nightly/rustc/platform-support.html.

In practice, we had to scrap a project that was based on Rust. It gave us too many problems on armel, armhf, aarch64 and powerpc. Rust could not even compile its own cargos. We rebooted and went back to C. (This was several years ago, before Aarch64 became Tier I).

It’s even worse than I thought.

I accidentally coined the term “stainless steel ports” for those Debian ports without rust… let’s give the lack of that a positive spin!

First night I slept with two cats cuddling onto me, although still on opposite sides of either me or my duvet.

I’d say the socialisation of Malik🐈‍⬛ with Čara🐈‍⬛ has succeeded, even if they don’t cuddle each other yet; they play-fight a lot, but both actively seek the other in this so I think they’re rejoicing at "finally being fully catty again", not having to be careful with the claws and slow down their reactions so we slow humans can keep up. #FediCats

Okaaay… Čara🐈‍⬛ has already accepted her new “little” brother and is now sleeping totally unbothered on my legs, but Malik🐈‍⬛ is still doing the hissy-growly and hideaway-y. She doesn’t even let that bother her, she looked but is giving him time and some space, despite inspecting everything and everywhere he went.

Could be better, but, well, at least they’re not fighting. And we’re so proud of Čara…
