Just a quick post from my phone... Yes I have gotten lazy with text to speech.

It's been 2 years today since I lost my best friend and the sweetest woman I knew.

2 years later the #grief is, ❤️‍🩹 well, much more manageable. I'm in a much better headspace.

I will probably make a longer post later today. When I break open the laptop. But suffice to say I have early lunch plans with my mother-in-law and stepdaughter.

A lot of kudos to my friends here on Mastodon. For letting me be myself.

    @emilygorcenski @guncelawits Having been a software engineer for almost 20 years and having company after company yell FASTER, CHEAPER AT ALL COSTS and then blaming us when mistakes happen, I sometimes wonder if mechanical engineers have the same situation, and just picturing it makes me shudder

    One of the crafts I've been dipping a toe into learning is #bookbinding. Watched a fair number of videos and am getting ideas for things I want to try. People do awesome things.

    Just finished my first beach read. A book my daughter got me for my birthday.     My wife started a wonderful family tradition a couple of years ago of planting milkweed, putting whatever monarch caterpillars we find in a mesh habitat, and keeping them safe and fed until they can build a cocoon and hatch.

    One butterfly hatched last night. Just now showed it was ready to fly, so she launched it. Two more hatched this morning.

    When she proposed it, I was mildly "cool, whatever" about the whole thing. Now it's one of my favorite parts of spring.

    16 years in and iOS still doesn't have this feature that MacOS (née Mac OS X) has had since it launched 22 years ago: “Learn Spelling”.

    @gruber Not only that, but "just make a keyboard shortcut" does not work consistently. For years it has been trying to correct the word "jammies" as Jammie's, which I guess is the possessive of some guy named Jammie? Creating the shortcut doesn't fix. But even worse, it just now tried to correct the name without possessive to Jamie. The "smart" autocorrect system is inexcusably bad.

    #spam looks like if you report a post it goes to your instance owner and is maybe forwarded to the original instance, but there isn’t an option for reporting it to the original instance without bothering your own admin? That’s going to be a problem with large instances.

    @arthurwyatt Yeah I reported one this morning and winced that it was going to @phire. I don't want her getting hammered with these. Feels like the admin of the server full of spam should be the only one getting the workload.
