Even though I never cooked when I was living in Southeast Asia (you.. really don’t need to), paying attention to food procurement and techniques helped me level up when I started cooking when I left that region.
(Eating street food there is often cheaper than buying ingredients and cooking yourself. In almost all SEA cities)
There’s a lot of stuff I felt I just ‘knew’ because I was around people who dealt with food all the time
@ai6yr I've learned that climate change is messing with the models they've been using. So I check the forecast and status frequently when making plans.
@ai6yr Yeah. I'm really trying to change habits to acclimate (so to speak). I think the general public needs more education as to what's happening with models and how we all need to make changes in our habits (as well as some cultural things...like cooking things outside to keep the heat out) to deal with what's here already and what's to come.
@ai6yr This would be an interesting community participation thing here - everyone post screenshots of your YouTube recommendations.
Honestly, YouTube is so repetitive in its recommendations to me (including pushing right wing adjacent or right wing stuff I'm NEVER interested in) that I'd probably learn more new interesting things through an online thing like this than their own system.
@battusphilenor It really bothers me how many people (including legislators, I guess) seem to think solar needs to happen in centralized locations. We've got plenty of buildings solar could be on and that would put it closer to where it's used. But that would mean less profit for utilities, so...
Broke the rest of my tire levers on Tire #2 from the rims-from-he-double-toothpicks. Now, do I cry "uncle" and see if the LBS will mount this tire for me. 🤔 (Updated: Going to buy some Park TL-5 METAL tire levers next!) #BikeTooter#cycling
Q7. Are there local anti-cycling attitudes or reinforcements of those attitudes? I'm reminded of a bilboard ad in Gilette WY, about a decade ago, for a law firm where it basically said if you had a DUI if you didn't hire them the only way you were getting aound was on a bike.
@ai6yr@ascentale@InkySchwartz I hate those signs, too. I think it's anti-loitering and probably also meant to decrease chances of getting sued in case of accidents (like falling off a bike or skateboard).
What isn't explained is why they don't take that attitude to drivers, who likely have far more incidents. #BikeNite
@ai6yr I admit that skaters fucking around with ramps and shit (especially when there's an actual skate park nearby) piss me off.
I think planners, etc. need to figure out what skaters like, make sure some public infrastructure doesn't have it, but create designated areas which really do have it.
@skyfaller asks about low maintenance bikes for the long-long term:
Q5. What is the easiest bicycle to maintain in the long term, like if you wanted it to be a family heirloom? Bikes that are no longer in production are valid. What factors do you consider for ease of maintenance?
If you were building a bike from scratch with the goal of making it as easy to maintain as possible, how would you do it?
