8. Space Babies
9. The Church on Ruby Road

The first 4 are solidly good (Boom and WBY are actually great), the second 2 are mostly ok, the bottom 3 are meh-ok at best for me.

I was just reading up on Covid again. Official death toll is about 7mn people. But I was reminded about a piece in The Economist two years ago, in which a model was shown that esimated the true number being around 3.3x as much. If that model still holds, we are talking about roughly 23mn people worldwide. At the same time, it is estimate that in the EU alone around 14mn people suffer or have suffered from some form of long Covid. This thing will haunt us for years to come.

There's probably one issue I have with a lot of RTD-written episodes of #DoctorWho Season One: they rarely establish a rulebook and play by it. It's all very vague and whimsical a la "and then this happened". In "The Giggle" we had some rules laid out with the Toymaker but e.g. in "The Devil's Chord" I had no idea why stuff that happened actually happened. It's a bit similar with "73 Yards", which was held together by atmosphere and Millie Gibson.

#DoctorWho #73yards doesn’t make a lot of sense but of the four "magical" episodes so far, it utilized the fantasy angle the best imo. Great performance by Millie Gibson, without her all the plot would fall into one of its many holes. Still on the fence with this iteration of DW, but the casting is super strong and I‘m really glad that Gibson will stay on for one more season

We've seen four episodes now of the "new new" #DoctorWho and RTD's take/vision of this era and I have to say, with the exception of #Boom, I remain very much on the fence. It's too "magical" for my liking, it doesn't do a lot of sci-fi stuff or concepts. And it has the usual silliness dialed to 11 (or 12), all amplified by RTD's sledgehammer writing style. It's somewhat ok and at times interesting, even charming, but overall I still don't know if it's for me. Which is fine.

Why I enjoyed Ncuti Gatwa's portrayal of #DoctorWho almost from the start, it was #Boom that really "clicked" him into character for me. Brilliant lines (by Steven Moffat) and fantastic line delivery, love this man.

Just was reminded about this little fact that Steven Moffat has written stories for more Doctors than any other writer in #DoctorWho history. And it's not a stretch to argue that he gave everyone of them their best episode as well.

Now I watched #TheDevilsChord and... well that was an hour of television. In some respect that worked better than #SpaceBabies, in others it... didn't, at least for me. Gatwa brings a lot to #DoctorWho and there's enough mystery around Ruby to keep me watching. But let's just say that I'm really glad the next episode is written by #StevenMoffat.
