As a librarian who has had to work lots of circulation recently, I have developed what can only be described as manilaenvelopephobia. Person walks in with only a Manila envelope, this is never a good thing. #librarian@libraries
Oh just fabulous. 🙄 AI-generated personality tests in job applications have arrived. Just helped a library guest apply for a job and the test was incomprehensible from beginning to end. Of course the local outfit had outsourced the application process to a third party company, who had outsourced the personalty/morality tests to yet ANOTHER company. This ordeal was for a job as a JANITOR. #library#librarian#AI@librarians
@decapitae@librarians the only answer I knew for sure was: for the ecstatically happy cartoon guy surrounded by currency and the caption “Side Hustle,”the correct answer button was “NOT ME.”
She must work only that job with unflagging dedication for whatever pittance they pay, be absolutely miserable but remain an Outgoing Team Leader, and remain on welfare.

I spoke this morning with a bookseller in England and had a very hard time getting off the phone. He was so charming. I felt like a modern-day Helene Hanff. The limited edition of the double-signed box set I wanted sold out in seven minutes! @bookstodon #bookstodon
As a librarian, I never want to see a pair of eclipse glasses again. I’m exhausted. Only one hour and 27 minutes left to hand these out and answer the phone. @librarians
Listening to Fifty Beasts to Break Your Heart by Gennarose Nethercott and reading The Honey Witch by Sidney J. Shields and Flint and Mirror by John Crowley. What about you guys? #bookstodon#fiction@bookstodon
My new hobby is blocking tens of thousands of crap titles on hoopla, publisher by garbage publisher, until carpal tunnel sets in. #hoopla#ebooks#audiobooks@librarians
After an online training on #ReadersAdvisory for Millennials and Generation Z, I made a mega list on Libby called “Romantasy” and ended up needing arthritis cream on my wrist today with all the mouse work. Overdrive findability is tough. Metadata is scant. Neither author nor genre searches recovered most of these. It’s almost like they want to bury your old content licences. #Romantasy#LibbyApp#librarian#bookstodon#ebooks#curation @bookstodon @librarians
People are emailing me wanting "genealogy information" from the 1960s. It's like honey, I can help you with the 1760s or the 1860s. I was born in the 1960s and there are no censuses publicly available yet, even. Stop making me feel like a fossil. @librarians#genealogy#librarian
@jillrhudy@librarians when my uncles started excavating our roots and dragged me with them, I was delighted to learn that state governments in US and local libraries sometimes had birth and death records that were decades away from census reveal.
Hey @jessamyn any good tips for grandmas who have allowed their grandkids to brick their Kindle Fires? The last person I helped today, out of several, allowed 127 games full of malware to be downloaded on hers. Couldn't even get into Settings to factory reset (and of course she didn't know her Amazon password in any case). @librarians
@jessamyn@librarians she didn’t know her password and I couldn’t access settings for all the pop-ups and shutdowns. I know it’s hers because I set up Libby and hoopla on it before she decided to hand it to the grandkids.
@jillrhudy@librarians Yeah I greatly sympathize but if she doesn't know (and can't reset) her password she'll have to talk to the Amazon folks. Probably outside of your remit but I have found them much more helpful than I'd ever expect.
