En 2023 la Ville de Lévis développe des rues pour un nouveau quartier résidentiel avec… aucun trottoir. À deux coins de rue d’un hôpital.

Développement archaïque digne des années 1950. On a rien appris. Et après ça on joue au pikachu surpris que le pont est plein d’autos et que les résidents veulent rien savoir du transport actif.

This is beyond ridiculous. We used $87.56 of energy and it somehow cost $117.70 to get to my house?!

Delivery charges should NOT inflate our utilities by 135%!! This is a straight-up robbery.

This is an impressive (but very long!) read with some great analysis and tonnes of photos along the proposed alignment. Very much worth your time to digest over the Christmas break if you’re following along with high frequency rail developments in Canada.

jerome,
@jerome@jasette.facil.services avatar

@jfmezei not how it’s going to work. In fact this program has started already with YRT and other GTA transit agencies so we can see how they did it.

If you take TTC then transfer to GO, what you will pay for the #GOTransit will be the standard rate minus the #TTC amount you paid for. So the cheaper fare essentially gets deducted from the bigger.

How it works with #YRT
https://www.yrt.ca/en/fares-and-passes/ride-to-go.aspx

jerome,
@jerome@jasette.facil.services avatar

@jfmezei I guess it’s both.

If you transfer to GO, they deduct from the GO fare.

If it’s YRT, then you only pay the first one

That’s kind of what is implied here:

https://www.ttc.ca/news/2023/November/TTC-recommends-joining-One-Fare-program-and-eliminating-double-fares-in-2024

Big question is if you add a 3rd mode, as you said.

@chad question: is there really an advantage to someone making monthly $8 payment versus someone making a one time payment of $96 for the year? Would have thought the one time payment would be better since you could use it for capital expenditures instead of just having nough cash to buy food for the hamster that runs to spin the wheel that makes mstdn.ca work ?

jerome,
@jerome@jasette.facil.services avatar

@jfmezei @chad there’s lots of benefits for non profit/orgs to have monthly because a lot of expenses are monthly and you can better predict cash flow and accurately predict 90% of those monthly donations are coming next month. If you pay once a year, it’s uncertain and cant really predict the donations are coming back so harder to plan for future

Finding an Air Canada-approved carry-on case for my upcoming Washington DC trip is very difficult. Luckily, there are many options available with duffel bags.

The Samsonite Tote-A-Ton duffel bag. 20.5 x 10.8 x 7.8 inches, $35. Many reviewers mentioned the material feels thinner than expected.

The Carhartt 20 inch legacy gear bag. 20 x 10.5 x 10 inches, $85. It was built to carry tools and can serve as a heavy-duty travel bag.

Air Canada's carry-on size limit is 21.5 x 15.5 x 9(!) inches.

Something new in Parliamenet: While the skiing hasn't yet opened on Parliament Hill, there is a new app that allows an MP to formally vote with a smartphone while NOT in the House (it used to be a hard requierement that an MP be in the House to vote). The app takes a selfie picture of MP to confirm his idetity and sends vote the the House clerks i charge of counting votes (and validating identity).

    Of course people from country to country would have a different opinion. The Asian experience in America after centuries of yellow peril will be different than Malaysia.

    I’m just curious why you keep repeating you shouldn’t be expected to have the same opinion about your own experience in Malaysia. Are a lot of people expecting you to do that?

    I’ve seen you made that point quite a few times on mastodon and curious what triggered it.

    Have to say, for my first day with Disney+ in Canada, I am farily impressed with the breath of back catalogue they have. A bit like when Netflix started. I am guess it is from the combo on ABC and the FOX TV network Disney purchased. Got to see pilot for Futurama again (after watching Doctor Who, of course).

    @jfmezei since they dont split Hulu and Disney+ (like they do in the US), we actually get more than the US

    Elon Musk retweets anti-Semites & then gets angry at people who tell his advertisers about it.
    Then there are leftists who join anti-Israel rallies organized by people who welcomed the Oct 7 massacre & then say it's slander to call them pro-Hamas.
    Musk has much more power, but the duplicity is the same.

    jerome,
    @jerome@jasette.facil.services avatar

    @BenRossTransit lots of those rallies are organized or co-hosted by Jewish voice for peace (and other Jewish organizations in other countries) putting all rallies attended by millions of people across the world as being organized by Hamas sympathizers is quite dishonest.

    📖 “Will HFR be fast or faster? Slow-moving government finally launches RFP” – Can’t help but think the Liberals have kicked this far enough down the road for the Conservatives to cancel it if they win the next election. Dragging these projects out is very risky, and this seems to be the cycle for transit planning in Canada. https://www.transportaction.ca/topics/intercity-rail-and-bus/will-hfr-be-fast-or-faster-slow-moving-government-finally-launches-rfp/
